Civil Rights Leader, Leading Theorist of Nonviolent Activism
to Speak at 7 p.m. on May 5 at Olympia’s Temple Beth Hatfiloh
(Olympia, Wash.) Civil rights leader and colleague of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rev. James M. Lawson will be speaking at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 5 at Temple Beth Hatfiloh, 201 8th Ave SE in Olympia. Rev. Lawson will talk about building a community that both values activism – to promote better quality of life and greater equity among citizens – and ensures civility and respect for the rights of all. The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the City of Olympia, The Evergreen State College, The Hispanic Women’s Network, Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation, Olympia Movement for Justice and Peace, participating members of Olympia Port Militarization Resistance, The Port of Olympia, Unity in the Community, and Veterans for Peace. Lawson is a leading figure in the civil rights movement. On the eve of his assassination, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. called Lawson "the leading theorist and strategist of nonviolence in the world."

He will share what he's learned while in Olympia. He will also share his thoughts about activism, nonviolence and responisible citizenship in a democratic society. Jorge Martín, international leader of the Hands Off Venezuela Campaign to speak in Olympia on Wednesday, May 7th at 7:30 P.M at the Olympia Free School at 610 Columbia. (Columbia and Legion, downtown Olympia)
Topic: The Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela, and the Present and Future of a 21st Century Left in Bolivia, Ecuador and Latin America.

Jorge Martín, born in Barcelona, Catalonia, has been involved in the international solidarity with the Venezuelan revolution from the very beginning. He was a founding member of the international Hands Off Venezuela campaign, of which he is now the international secretary. He has written extensively on the Bolivarian revolution and has traveled around the world speaking in its defense. He has visited Venezuela often, participating in meetings and forums and holding discussions with revolutionary activists. He has been actively involved in the movement of occupied factories in Venezuela."

Hiya. It's that time. Tomorrow from 6-8 pm at the MIXX 96 conference room on Washington between 4th and State. Anyone is welcome to attend. Participation for the general public is welcome during the public communications time at the beginning. John Keeffe from the City who is working on the GTEC grant to reduce car trips downtown is first on the agenda to talk about how the grant and business intersect. We'll also be getting updates on ongoing projects and talking about 2009 budget items.
