Olympia Copwatch organizer Drew Hendricks will host a conference (or summit) of Copwatchers on Saturday, September 23rd from Noon to 9PM (7-9 PM being dinner).

The gathering is intended for 15-30 people to gather, share the history of police accountability issues as it stands now, network, and strategize for the future. We're not looking for a single strategy as much as a place and time to connect on all of our various strategies, so that we can maximize our individual effectiveness.

Although this event will be open to the public, it is intended as an advanced excercise; casually interested persons may be easily overwhelmed. (It's a large topic...)

Everytime I scan down

Everytime I scan down OlyBlog the last couple of days I see this "Cowpatch Summit" and it stops me cold.  I think well, I'm not sure what we need to summit about with regard to Cowpatch, but it's long overdue.  Anyway, I probably can't make the Copwatch Summit, just running a little too much these days, but I appreciate your work on this, Drew.

Sorry, you walked into it...

"I'm not sure what we need to summit about with regard to Cowpatch..."

Obviously, we need to discuss avoidance of cow pies in the cow patch...

No, seriously - we're going to share the history of police accountability and try to get a bunch of people working on the problem from a common understanding of what the problem is. This does not mean everyone will be doing the same thing, but rather that we'll have a better chance to coordinate where we can and avoid stepping on each others 'toes' while we work on the issue. So the cowpatch analogy works - kinda.

I will continue to do what I

I will continue to do what I have done in the past, find and post the complaint and praise contact info and procedure specific to each department as events occur that might warrant praise or complaint.  I think that a citizen review board or copwatch is critical, will help when and where I can.
