The Free of Kings Conference is a conference and project to create a radical, co-op (member-owned) free speech alternative to social networking websites. Many of the largest social networking websites are owned by right-wing groups, multinational corporations, or a small clique of volunteers which puts censorship into the hands of a few power-tripping individuals: self-appointed Kings. Myspace.com (owned by Fox news, an extremist right-wing, war-promoting multinational media corporation), Youtube.com, (multinational corporate, owned by Google), Livejournal.com, (corporate owned), Match.com, (charges over $25.00 per month) and Indymedia.org (run by a few volunteer individuals who sometimes censor based on personal opinions). The Mission of the Conference is: -To network people from around the world who are working on non-corporate social networking projects or non-corporate virtual community projects. -To Build a Radical, Co-op (member-owned), opensource Free Speech, Social Networking Website Which Would be Better than Myspace, Youtube, Livejournal, Match.com, Dontstayin.com and Indymedia... Combined. Date: Friday, May 18th, 2007 Time: 12:00 pm-4pm. Location: Olympia Freeschool Building, 610 Columbia Street SW, Olympia, WA 98501 Registration Fees: The entire event is free and refreshments will be served. Is the plan to start local and then expand out, or is it to create an (inter?) national social networking site like myspace, etc..
