I live in a small community near the Nisqually Reach area and I am looking for help. Our next door neighbor is Jubilee...a retirement neighborhood for folks over 55. In the last couple of years they have built several hundred homes and now have a proposal before the City of Lacey to built 212 more home.

I don't know a lot how to object to these proposals and I'm hoping there are some experienced "environmental activists" who would like to take on this project and object to this type of growth.

In order to build the homes that have already been approved, they have cut down hundreds and hundreds of large evergreen trees along the golf course. If this new proposal is approved:

  1. I'm sure more trees are going down.
  2. The proposed project is in a wetlands area on the Puget Sound. Some of the new homes will be built on the wetlands and others near the wetlands.
  3. The storm drainage will be more waste going directly into the Puget Sound (located between Tolmie State Park Nisqually Wildlife Refuge).
  4. There is a Bald Eagle nest in the vicinity. They have created a buffer zone around the nest for no building...but, there will be plenty of folks walking around the area. They have already built a walking path to the Sound right thru Bald Eagle buffer zone.
  5. The homes they built so far are on very small lots and clustered together.

The development is called...Hawks Prairie North Associates,LLC, and the case # is 06-176. The Associate Planner in charge is Sarah Hawkins; she can be reached at 360 491-5642.

If you have any suggestions on how to best address this hearing or if you would like to participate, please let me know.

Thanks,
Tim Miller

public development process

Hiya Tim, can you start by calling the City of Lacey planning/development office and ask how you can object to these developments?

Wetlands are also a State dealie, so try WSDOT, Dept of Eco, etc...

Hope these suggestions help!
