We will have a vigil on the fourth ave. bridge on Saturday, December 9th from 12-1 pm to support military resisters and protest the war.

The themes that we are asking people to emphasize and to bring banners, and signs for are:

PEACE ON EARTH NOW!
SUPPORT LT. EHREN WATADA!
THE WAR IN IRAQ IS ILLEGAL!
JUSTICE FOR SUZANNE SWIFT AND OTHER VICTIMS OF COMMAND RAPE!
3000 AMERICAN DEATHS IN IRAQ IS TOO MANY!

(By that weekend the number will be over 2900.  The actual 3000th death may well be on Christmas Day.)

650,000 IRAQI DEATHS IS TOO MANY
THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN- NOT ANOTHER LIFE LOST, AMERICAN OR IRAQI

War Protest Vigil on 4th Ave Bridge

I went to the "two-thousand is too many" vigil, and there were a lot of people on the bridge, and lining 4th Ave from Water Street up to the roundabout above the bridge. It was a truly impressive display, so I encourage everyone who cares about addressing the misconduct of the invasion/occupation of Iraq to come out. At the last one, some people estimated the turn-out to be over 1,000 people. It was awesome. Does anyone have a more accurate crowd estimate of the 2,000 is too many vigil?

3,000 in Iraq?

CNN just reported three more Marines were killed today and said that raised the total to a little more than 2,800.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just read the sentence below. It's in anticipation of the 3,000th death.

About the "not another life lost," though. Is this an advocation for an immediate withdrawl from the country by American forces?

I wouldn't mind seeing an immediate exit by American forces, but you need to be aware there are going to be some depressing consequences. My cousin said last week their translator (who gave himself the name "Rick James") is worried that American troops will leave the country before it is stable. His worry? That he and his family will be executed for cooperating with the Americans. Prepare for a repeat of the horror stories the South Vietnamese told after the US left their country. I guess that's the price you pay for believing the United States has a powerful military.
