Re: blog post http://olyblog.net/discomfort-re-violent-confrontations

At 6:16pm Rob Richards, in his docent role, closed the thread to any further comments. See the comment below:
Ok, I think we've squeezed every last bit of usefulness

out of this thread,

Nothing to see here, folks, move along.

Then at 6:32pm, after comments have been closed, “bert” makes another comment on this thread. His comment was NOT in the role of a docent. His comment was a personal comment. See the comment below:
specific points

What I have done here is made a strong case for why Brigham's report deserves to be viewed with skepticism. He has been a staunch detractor of PMR… (The comment continues but for the sake of brevity, I have truncated it.)

Apparently, “bert” used his “docent authority” to turn comments back on so that he could add an additional comment of his own. A comment NOT in his role as a docent but rather as an individual blogger here.

My questions for the docents are:

  1. Are changes being made so that the rest of us can do this?
  2. Is this considered the proper use of docent authority?
  3. What actions are the docents taking regarding this?

Thank you,

Jeff Brigham

I would agree with you if we

I would agree with you if we all had the authority to do this.  Chalk this one up to another instance where the standards vary by user authorization.  SharePoint anyone?

From a cynical,

From a cynical, seen-it-before view: He had to have the last word, and couldn't let it go. Perhaps even a power play.

From a benefit-of-the-doubt view: It was his post to begin with (though as a non-docent I don't have the opportunity to re-open for myself any of my posts that get shut down) plus he did go back and remove the original message after the fuss was made.

Bert, if you are reading this

I really think that this action was an abuse of power. I wish you would correct it, if you have not already done so.

Like I said the other day

I wish I had the power to silence people from making comments on threads.  The added statements was not only an abuse of power it was nothing more than 'shoving it in someones face' of look what I can do and you can't.

I'm starting to lose all respect for olyblog.  It's not a sharing of ideas, it's have my idea or you can't play.
