Tickets include up to
two consecutive movies
and a prize drawing
|
The prestigeous Olympia Film Society, located at the Capitol Theater in downtown Olympia, offers a free ticket to up to two
consecutive movies, free popcorn, and free coffee or soda to volunteer ticket sellers and ticket takers. I was recently granted the
opportunity to interview Kendra Hadlock, OFS Volunteer Coordinator, and Barbara, who has volunteered at the OFS for over ten
years, about the rewarding experience of ticketing at the Olympia Film Society:
C: Kendra, what are the opportunities available for those who want to volunteer to ticket at the Olympia Film
Society?
Kendra: Ticketers can volunteer Monday through Saturday, at 5:45 & 8:15 and Sundays at 1:45, 5:45, &
8:15 - Find an open shift on the volunteer signup sheet on the west wall of the Capitol Theater lobby. Sundays are often open, but
we really also need help with ticketing at live events. There is a live events sign up in the lobby as well. Available positions are
selling tickets and tearing tickets.
C: How much time should a prospective volunteer plan to set aside for each volunteer opportunity?
Kendra: One hour for regular film screenings, longer for live events (but then you get in for free!)

C: How can someone arrange an orientation to ticketing or find out more about ticketing and other volunteer
opportunities at the Olympia Film Society?
Kendra: Call me at 754-3635 or email (I prefer) at ofsvolunteers@yahoo.com
C: What are the rewards of volunteering as a ticketer at the OFS?
Kendra: For every shift you work you receive one free movie pass (or admission into the movie you are
working) free popcorn and soda/coffee, and new friends!!!
C: Is there any additional information you would like prospective ticket volunteers to know?
Kendra: There are often new volunteer opportunities posted on the sign-up board so prospective
volunteers should check by often!

As someone who has volunteered as a ticket tearer, this reporter would like to encourage anyone and everyone with an
interest in movies to get to know the friendly faces in your community by volunteering as a ticket tearer. Greeting movie-goers as
they come in the door, accepting and tearing their tickets, and placing the stubs in the box used for a prize drawing (you can see
the hole in the counter in the ticket stations photo), is a fun and easy way to earn entrance to the great shows at the Capitol
Theater. Someone else who will vouch for the rewarding experience of volunteering at the Olympia Film Society is Barbara, who
often sells tickets and kindly answered some questions about that exciting opportunity:
|
Barbara, enjoying a free
movie and popcorn.
This could be you!
|
C: Barbara, what do you like most about ticketing at the OFS?
Barbara: a) supporting the great OFS and helping it to keep going with its amazing selection of
movies
b) meeting people
c) getting awarded with a free ticket and free popcorn
d) always keep in mind , you can ask the lobby supervisor for help..even after you had your training....no question is too dumb to
ask :-)
C: What advice would you give prospective volunteers about ticket selling?
Barbara: ..don't panic when there are long lines ...just stay cool
....there will always be help and other volunteers..or the lobby supervisor will organize selling tickets outside if the line gets too
long
..Its easy and fun......everything inside the booth is well organized and easy to figure out.
C: Is there anything else you'd like to say about volunteering as a ticket seller at OFS?
Barbara: I highly recommend volunteering at the OFS..you'll meet some fantastic people...staff,
volunteers, movie-goers...
Come on down folks.. join the fun and help keep the OFS going :-)
