Twelve police vehicles from four different local police agencies descended upon Evergreen Park Ct, (Near the Courthouse off Evergreen Park Dr) with tracking dogs, private EMT, and Olympia Fire Department response.

KIRO Reporters, and Olympian Photographer were on scene. Officer Stevens, shortly after ordering me "back into my home" (I did not comply, as I did not leave my home until the man was in cuffs, which I could observe from my bedroom window), approached the Olympian Photographer, and volunteered to "give him the complete story". The reporter had not yet showed, however, so the officer walked away to talk with Detectives from the Tumwater PD, (where we were told the pursuit was started.)

Dingo even got quoted in the Breaking Olympian Online shortly after the arrest.

Great Job

Nice work. If we get more people to start looking out their windows and reporting what they see, The Olympian won't stand a chance.
»

I'm so relieved to see that

I'm so relieved to see that the world is now that much safer for blonde women in ponytails. What did the bad guy do, anyway?
»

Wow. Kind of a snide comment

Wow. Kind of a snide comment for someone who doesn't know all the facts eh? However I did take a quick look at your past posts and it seems that snide and sarcastic is just your way of "communicating" on Olyblog.

»

As opposed to what you just did?

One of the great non sequiturs of the left is that, if the free market doesn't work perfectly, then it doesn't work at all-- and the government should step in.

»

Hey, buddy, at least I

Hey, buddy, at least I advanced the conversation! Is it so bad to ask questions when you don't have all the facts? And you know, I gotta tell ya, it's hard to make an observation that all the law enforcement and vulnerable citizenry are white and pretty, and the bad guy is black without resorting to snidery.. snideriness... snidishness... sarcasm. Into what kind of context can you put an observation like that?
»

I wouldn't say that your

I wouldn't say that your question was even slightly out of line. It was more the manner of your presentation. I don't know that I would call that advancing anything. Don't you think there are kinder more intelligent ways to ask that same question?

Theunabonger posted the information available to him at the time. I was under the impression this forum is suppose to be about citizen journalism, quality communication practices and being good neighbors. As Tschida so eloquently pointed out, my post wasn't exactly a good example of quality communication either. I guess it wasn't my place to call you out on it, I apologize.

Wow, man

"this forum is suppose [sic] to be about citizen journalism, quality communication practices and being good neighbors..."

Been here long?

»

From the looks of it

1 year and 35 weeks.
»

Tis true.

And it looks like about 27 weeks longer than you Olydowntowner.

Furthermore for the record I can read, I see how you and other folks can act around here. That doesn't mean that kind of behavior has to be accepted and/or perpetuated. For someone who seems interested in peace abroad, you might try focusing in our community here as well.

»

What are my crimes against peace, Dave?

You seem quite huffy.... over WHAT exactly?

But congratulations on being here longer than me. 27 weeks!

»

Probably over your original post

and I've been here a week longer than you have....rookie.
»

Thanks, Norm, that makes it real clear

Oh, I see now! The problem was with my original post. Thanks for clarifying! Yeah, that post really ruined the peace of what had previously been an eternal sanctuary of harmony and compassion: Olyblog. I see now. Please accept my heartfelt apologies, everyone. I hope I can sleep tonight.

Breaking News

The Olympian reported about 30 minutes prior to this blog entry.

Police dog used to catch trio after high-speed chase

There's no timestamp on the page now but judging by the comments (first one at 11:51a) I'd say The Olympian reported it first.

»

they were allegedly planning

they were allegedly planning a home invasion robbery.

Thanks, Rob

Were they shouting as they made plans? Or can we just assume when we see certain people driving around town that they are plotting something sinister?

i imagine someone ratted them out.

I take it no representative

I take it no representative of certain people could ever, ever, be capable of committing a crime? They're all innocent, is that the point you're trying to make?

Please give me a second grace. Please give me a second face. I've fallen far down, the first time around, now I just sit on the ground in your way.

Meanwhile, Over At The "O"

I see theunabonger is the latest commenter victim...

Thanks Olympian, for the details at least. At least here I got the who, what, where, why, and how - unlike the eyewitness "citizen journalist" over on Olyblog - who just detailed how he or she refused to back into his or her house when a police officer told the residents leaving their houses to go back.

»

Ha ha!

They're just pissed unabonger got the scoop! WTG, Una! Ya know, isn't it kind of, ya know, VALIDATING, to incur the wrath of those idiots making online comments? Citizen Journalism has arrived!
»

Nice pictures Unabonger.

Nice pictures Unabonger. Good job local area police.

Fugitive captured. (My reprimand to JstPlnOrny)

I applaud theunabonger for telling this story, especially since he was ordered to get back into his house, as I witnessed another neighbor (her son's a detective) was allowed to talk all she wanted to the police; while they were actively searching for this escaped man! I too, witnessed this incident, and anyone that wants to express a snide comment about theunabonger is naive, and in my opinion (JstPlnOrny) is obviously just another shameful sheep without an independant thought of his own; yet wants to put his two cents in--AND HE WASN'T EVEN THERE! The Olympian has changed their story three times, and the police has changed their story twice. Don't believe me, look it up! It's a shame that an older neighbor woman, who has family in the police department (who called his mother to warn her, yet I never received a phone call from any police agency to keep me or my family and neighbors out of harm's way), is afforded preferential treatment from another citizen who's a responsible home owner AND was actually attempting to thank the police for capturing this fugitive who hid in the woods of our neighborhood. I noticed Mr. theunabonger didn't bring skin color into the discussion; only that the fugitive was a man. JstPlnOnry obviously doesn't have a clue; just an agenda to attack a man's character because he was brave enough to tell the truth. The Olympian didn't tell you the whole story; as their reporter wasn't on the scene until at least twenty minutes after the apprehension. Yet, myself, the detective's mother, theunabonger (independently), as well as other neighbors were. JstPlnOnry, you need to broaden your horizons! Seriously man, you need to adhere to the old adage, "Don't believe everything you see, read and hear." I would like to extend my sincere thank you to Mr. theunabonger, for having the fortitude to stand up and be a citizen journalist, instead of sticking your head in the sand as "JstPlnOnry" might have. I don't know how he (JstPlnOrny) would've gotten to the bottom of this incident; he writes as though he'd run back into his house like a coward and without another thought in his head! You can't find out what the truth is unless you observe it! Digest that JstPlnOrny! I don't expect you to thank me for trying to get you to broaden your horizons, or to listen to the truth. You sound as though you don't care to learn about the truth. You sound as you're more interested in having the world as you care to see it. I'll pray for you-you must need all the help you can get.

Respectfully,

The Olygirl (a relieved citizen that my neighbor(s) care enough to watch out for us all--even though he doesn't have a detective son to warn him of danger, and treat him with extraordinary respect because of his family's police ties!"

»

Well, that was certainly respectful.

But in Just Plain Ornery's defense, she was bringing it to our attention that the online commenters over at the Olympian were going after Unabonger, she wasn't doing it herself. She was quoting -- something written by "anon". I'm pretty astonished by how much you've assumed about her, and by how much you've attacked. She's not a cowardly woman. If I were the type of person who went around demanding apologies on other people's behalf, this would definitely be one of those occasions.

P.S. I was the one who brought up skin color, so why don't you go ahead and slam me? Really, go ahead.

»

Just a little observation

Other's have already commented about how Olygirl misconstrued JustP's post, but it doesn't stop there. When I was first reading Olygirl's vent I thought I was reading Operagirl! It's just a lesson that not only do we need to listen carefully when communicating...here we need to look twice too.

Please give me a second grace. Please give me a second face. I've fallen far down, the first time around, now I just sit on the ground in your way.
Nick Drake

Amen, brother.

We should quote each other accurately and ask reasonable questions based on the true content of another's post.  Otherwise, the discussion descends into rhetorical fantasy land pretty quickly.  Reading carefully, writing carefully, those are important to ethical journalism and social dialogue.
»

What The Heck?

Olygirl - Great start.  Thanks for diving in headfirst and attacking me for just cutting & pasting a comment that wasn't even mine or my opinion.  Gug has some great crow recipes.

I appreciate everyone correcting this newbie in my absence.

»

To be fair...

...not everyone is familiar with the Olympian comments, so in the future, I would try to make it more clear that you're quoting.

For example, using blockquote to indent something that you've pulled off another website will cut down on misunderstandings.

> Say something interesting or say nothing at all. <
»

Good Point!

I will do that!
»

OK then.

It seems that there was some miscommunication on this thread. It would be nice if folks would ask if they have an issue, rather than flame. We're not here to beat each other up, but to stay in touch with our community.

> Say something interesting or say nothing at all. <

olygirl's fiesty . . .

and her Irish blood boils in her vains sometimes. ;)

Seriously though, I'm sure she didn't notice the attribution, I missed it too, the first time I read the comment. I'm also sure she'll be the first to apologize when she notices her mistake. Quite frankly, I suspect she was so fired up about this, because of the Olympian's shoddy coverage, and their willingness to put anything out there, whether it has substance or not.

I didn't bring up skin color, because I really hope this had nothing to do with the way they pursued, or apprehended this particular suspect. We must assume they had some information that suggested he was dangerous, but his actions in fleeing, rather than stopping could conceivably have caused this reaction. I am more concerned about possible liability in having police dogs bite suspects during arrests. What if this man is exonerated of the suspected "armed robbery" he "was about to" commit? There was never any mention of weapons being confiscated, so I'm curious as to how the Tumwater PD came to their conclusion about the three suspect's motives in driving about the neighborhood.

As to the Anon Comments at the Olympian, they are garbage, as are the people who post there, and therefore should be ignored. I didn't mention in it my original article, (because I was posting photos and blog entries instead of going into work), but I had talked to an officer previously, when I asked him what he was doing in my driveway (on private property), and was told they were tracking a felony suspect with dogs. I thanked that officer, and went back into my house, until a few minutes later, when we heard screaming, then shouting, then barking, from the woods approximately 100 feet away down the hill. We had a clear view of the arrest, and the officers hauling the suspect back up the hill after he was apprehended. Only after that, did I venture back outside to check the commotion.

Finally, let the trash muck about with themselves over at the Zero, the highbrow commentary is at Olyblog!

Breaking News

The Olympian reported on this story about 30 mintues before this post.  Check the timestamp of the first comment.

Police dog used to catch trio after high-speed chase

So what?

Did you see the Olympian's exciting photos? Of cops looking through a car? Unabonger got there and got some interesting photographs -- the Olympian didn't.

»

He just doesn't want us to be

too pleased with ourselves.

Apparently not!

Since he posted it three times. Who would have thought he was the type who liked to piss on a parade?

Perhaps we need to post this next time

No Pissing on the Parade

Or

Perhaps Olyblog should run Microsoft software and be stable.

I only see it once.  I posted it three times but only because Olyblog runs on crappy shareware.

»

to be honest...

...does micro$oft have any social networking software like what OlyBlog uses?

And dude, pls don't hijack a thread with a flame comment about good/bad software--

make that point on your blog w/ facts-

my 2cents: XP is "OK", but the rest of the M$ stuff is trash...

I don't consider you less or more of a person cause you work at M$, and I'm curious how it all went in EU for you-

cheers

»

You're Kidding

There's no way I'm being singled out here for hijacking a thread this far down, am I?  Really?  The picture just above my post was appropriate?  You should read the post sorted by timestamp.

Yes, Microsoft's product is Windows SharePoint Services.  It can be configured in many different ways and social networking is one of them.  Although, I wouldn't classify Olyblog as a social networking site.

My thoughts on our EU troubles are documented in previous comments on the many Microsoft/Apple threads.

My intention(s) and apology to JstPlnOrny!

Dear Olybloggers,

Yesterday I wrote a response to what I viewed on the Olyblog, and I'll admit, I did so with complete haste. For that, I humbly apologize to all I offended, especially 'JstPlnOrny'. As to 'OlyDowntowner', I realize I took what 'JstPlnOrny' wrote out of context, and that she was responding to "Anon" at The Olympian. I admire you for standing up and correcting me. I read that 'Gug' has some crow recipes . . . I'd ask that 'Gug' submit them, but I'm sure you can see the feathers sticking out of the corner of my mouth as I write this apology. I freely admit I was wrong for jumping to the incorrect conclusion I made yesterday. While I accept my responsibility and apologize for my mistakes, I ask that you realize I did not know 'JstPlnOrny' had cut and pasted a quote from another source. Had I known that, I wouldn't have felt the need to submit my comments in such a strong manner after reading what I believed was an opinion attached to her name. I believe, and hope, that we all learned a lesson on the importance of proper writing skills, and editorizing--myself included!

Secondly, The Olympian only knew about the story because I was one of the people to call in to tell them what was happening. And to be accurate, The Olympian didn't have a clue as to what was happening in this story. I felt that as a citizen who lives on the same block where my neighbor's police detective son gave his mother warning to insure her safety, there were no other considerations or warnings afforded to the rest of the neighborhood. There are many families who live here, and it's not right to ignore their needs and/or safety; as they are just as important to their loved ones, as the police detective's mother is to him. 'Theunabonger might have taken thirty minutes to post to Olyblog, but he wrote the story, and submitted photographic evidence. Again, I must mention that The Olympian's reporter was not on the scene for at least twenty minutes after the capture, and I believe the reporter wouldn't have made it up to the scene had it not been for citizens like myself who called to inform the local newspaper.

I was most upset that I did not take the necessary time to understand what 'JstPlnOrny' was trying to communicate. I will also apologize for assuming the sex of the aforementioned person was male. I do ask though, that as a person who watched what really happened in my backyard, there be some understanding to watching and listening to brutality committed on another person while it is happening in real time. I'm not defending (as I don't have the facts) the man who ran away from the police. Alluding the police only makes matters worse, and I don't like to see incidents end with violence, as the man's primal screams came from injury and brutality. It may have been his fault, but it was unnerving none-the-less to hear a fellow human suffer. The scream was real, and I hope I'll never have to hear such a terrible sound from any creature.

Again, I apologize for not taking the time to digests all the comments made on Olyblog. At the time, I was trying to relay the story from MY perspective as an eyewitness. That said, I was not pleased with the police agencies handling of this situation either. First they admit they tasered the man they captured, and then they deny it and stated that the dog bit the man. From my vantage point, this revised story from the police does not jive with what I witnessed. Yet I too, believe you can't believe everything you see, hear and read.

To 'OlyDowntowner', I do not feel the need to "slam" you for bringing up this man's skin color. I was attempting to illustrate how the color of a person's skin should not be a contributing factor, regardless of any perported or actual crime. Whether a person has blonde hair, black skin, or is of another sexual orientation than the majority of the population; every person needs to be treated with equality and basic human rights. If you do not wish to accept my apology, you may "slam" me all you'd like. I can take it. Only if I am lead to believe an injustice has occurred, will I feel the need to "slam" back. Hopefully, my apologies and sincerity will show us all that as humans, we all make mistakes; especially myself. It's the actions we conduct after learning more facts, that defines our character. As an adult, I have no problem admitting my mistakes, and then correcting them once I see the errors of my ways. I have to live with myself when I look in the mirror. I hope I'm not the only one willing to strive for the truth, and finding an end to conflict without violence. I was incorrect and most definitely wrong to suggest that 'JstPlnOrny' might be a coward. I sincerely hope 'JstPlnOrny' understands my mistakes, and accepts my heartfelt apologies. I am truly sorry.

I thank 'theunabonger' for defending my post, albeit I did commit a huge error because I didn't understand 'JstPlnOrny's' post without the proper quotes. Again, I am willing to ask for 'JstPlnOrny's' acceptance of my apology. I hope we'll remember to post our comments in proper context, so we won't attack each other, but bond together as a community. My Irish temper and feistiness does indeed flow through my veins; but as an American citizen, I will endevour to keep myself in check and ask about the issues, instead of inflaming the situation. I must thank 'Rick' for so eloquently suggesting this thought when pointing out this suggestion in his post. Thank you 'Rick' for being a voice of reason. I shall try my best to follow your example.

Humbly and with sincere regret (especially to JstPlnOrny),

Olygirl

Right on, Olygirl

And, just for the record, I only brought up skin color because I observed, without drawing definite conclusions, that the "perp" (and victim of the dog)was dark-skinned, and all the LE was white. I don't think anyone of any race, criminal or innocent, should be bitten by a police dog. That's kind of medieval.
