foggy morningThe oatmeal is cooking and I just wanted to write a note to say that it's foggy outside, so please take it easy if you commute. And be safe. Do you have any special, exciting or just plain interesting plans for today? What's cooking for you?

there was a wee bit of ice on my windshield this morning...brrr

Aw, look who's up bright and early with the chickens, sounds like you're off to a good start. That stir-fry I made last night was so good that I'm having it for breakfast and then high ho high ho...

Sylvester Park FOR Peace Vigil

I will probably go stand with the FOR Peace Vigil today at Noon. It happens every week on Wednesdays at Sylvester Park (and also on Fridays at Percival Landing.)

It turned into a beautiful day

Well, and then it got grey again. I took my 1.5 year old down to Percival Landing this morning and it was really nice, although a little cold. Unfortunately, we left before the FOR peace vigil, but next week we'll try to push nap time back a bit and make it.

Percival Landing

Don't forget the Friday Vigil. It would be great to have you join either vigil. It's truly "the more the merrier!"

However, fair warning: today we were verbally assaulted twice. Although verbal attacks are relatively infrequent compared to the positive responses, there are sometimes one or two at each vigil. I would worry about not being able to deflect negative and hostile energy from a sensitive little one. Just something to keep in mind. It also might be good "real world" energy to expose a youngster to. I don't know.

Thanks for the warning

At this point, the verbal assaults would probably bother me more than my son, but it's good to know.

Open data

I found these too maps to be somewhat interesting (the darker the state, the higher the density):

Starbucks v. Wal-Mart

That is absolutely fascinating. Thanks for putting this up, G-Man.

This just has to do with where they originated.

It makes that they expanded out from their homes. Costco's map would probably look like Starbucks' also.

"Just?"

As in "only?" As in "no other determinants of behavior?" You just get back to me when you figure out Illinois and West Virginia then bucko. But, yes, point of origination is important, as are the socio-economic factors that determine the point of oringination, initial expansion, and where we are now. Waka waka waka.

Interesting

It seems like Colorado, Utah and Nebraska have a good mix of the two.

I went to grad school with this guy (wow, 20 years ago?)

See our mutual interests in plots. An economist would think this is hilarious.
