Drove by 116 4th Ave on my way to Music 6000 yesterday and was disgusted. Disgusted that employees had to use 10 foot long paint rollers to roll out pale yellow paint after some dumbass decided to graffiti up the wall. Pathetic. How come you never see folks rolling out fresh new paint on The Reef's nice, red, graffiti-less walls?

Maybe the Reef strategically
Submitted by oldtimeydave on Tue, 10/09/2007 - 12:09pm.Maybe the Reef strategically chose their wall color. From and artist's viewpoint, not much will "pop" against a dark maroon background, and it is hard to paint light colors over a dark color like that. Coincidentally (or not) with that maroon it would be very easy to repaint over anyone's attempts to do so, dark or light. Light yellow on the other hand is a blank canvas just waiting for some idiot to paint on. Maybe folks just need to do things smarte.

What color is your car? I've got some black paint and time. If your car is black, I've got white. Unreal...
disgusted?
Submitted by Rob Richards on Tue, 10/09/2007 - 1:20pm.I think perhaps a better way to display your displeasure for graffiti would be to help paint over it. Those burdensome paint rollers were probably tiring, they would have appreciated the help, I'm sure. Not trying to censor you at all, but this post didn't do a damn thing to change a damn thing.

Submitted by Ehver Green on Tue, 10/09/2007 - 2:36pm.Yeah, this is why I left for a while - so much for giving it another chance. Post another anarchy letter so I can crap all over it, OK? At least it was local.

The guy has a point, it sucks to watch people work their butt off because some punk ass olympians decided to paint the wall of their business. Why does this happen to some businesses and nother others.
Being that it happend in Olympia I think this is a perfect discussion for the blog.

EG,
I don't understand the point of this post. It is local for sure, but it doesn't seem to leave room for more than a yes/no tug-of-war on the blog. One side that appreciates graffiti and thinks it should be given space, and the other side that thinks the opposite. We should try more often to have solution based conversations. Asking questions like: Why did this happen? Who did it? How can we as a community move toward solutions that prevent this from happening while allowing artists to express themselves?

Submitted by Ehver Green on Tue, 10/09/2007 - 3:01pm.Does it have to have a point? There are numerous anarchy posts talking about witches and wizards and magic dust. I could comment but I choose not to. When I first joined almost a year ago I probably would have.
In fact, I do appreciate the art - much more now that enpen is documenting it. I don't appreciate the 'screw you' attitude displayed by some of the artists.
Apology accepted. Apologies for not adding more context. I thought it would come through but I need to remember you're not looking at it with my eyes.

Oh....a suggestion to me earlier on another thread....if you don't like what someone posts, don't read it.
