I found this article in the Olympian today about a cyclist who was hit and the driver fled the accident.

Hit-and-run leaves cyclist injured, man arrested

An Olympia man was arrested early this morning in connection with a hit-and-run accident that left a Rochester man seriously injured.

Jason R. Bailey, 36, of Rochester, was riding northbound about 9:30 Wednesday night on Old Highway 99 in Rochester, approaching 201st Avenue, when a car struck him from behind, said Trooper Christian Wilson of Washington State Patrol.

The driver fled. Bailey, who was wearing a helmet, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He is in serious condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

After receiving an anonymous tip, police arrested Andrew E. Scott, 29, of Olympia at 4:20 this morning. He is now in the Thurston County Jail. Wilson said Scott, who was driving on a suspended license, would be charged with felony hit-and-run.

I am sad for Jason Bailey and his family and friends. I hope he gets well soon, and is able to fully recover from his injuries.

I am glad that someone was able to make an anonymous tip and perhaps have saved Jason's life. It made a difference for sure. I am glad that someone was there to watch out and do the right thing. I would very much like to follow this story as it goes along, and hopefully Mr. Scott will spend a long time in jail for doing this.

4:20

Is it on the 12 or 24?  I can't recall. =)

Thanks, Tschida.  I know you like F1 and you are a religious man.  But, what's the significance of your username?  I'd heard that name before and a live.com search turned up Tim, a ump in MLB.

Tschida

It is the name of a lake where I go to recharge my soul! It is in North Dakota, and my father in law has a cabin there. I think of it as a slice of heaven. Religious? Yes. Formula One? Absolutely! Baseball? Ugh! C.

One of the great non sequiturs of the left is that, if the free market doesn't work perfectly, then it doesn't work at all-- and the government should step in.

Olympian Advert

That's the first time I have ever seen an advertisement from the Olympian's website posted to Olyblog. It's nice to see your well wishing sentiments about the seriously injured bicyclist. Tschida, will you please remove the Olympian advert from your post?

I was thinking about writing a post about a recent experience that I had with being hit by a car. Fortunately it was not a major incident, but it was about six inches away from being quite serious. Even though the car hit me, it suffered considerable more damage that either I or my bicycle did.

Without a sense of caring there can be no sense of community.
