My power bill keeps going up and yet I'm regularly using less power each month than last year. I know I voted for that recent Go-Green ballot measure but it wasn't supposed to be a big increase and this steady rate hike has been going on for some time now. What gives?

Isn't there a formal public process for standard rate hikes?

Am I alone in this maddening sinking feeling of being robbed?

Should I just shut up and obey my cororate masters?

There is a process

The Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) regulates the rates and service of privately-owned electric companies, including our very own Puget Sound Energy. Its recent rate increase was approved by the Commission, mostly because a subsidy that BPA had received and passed onto the companies they sell to, including PSE, was eliminated by the feds. The UTC eagerly accepts comments on proposed rate changes. You can see their Web site at www.utc.wa.gov. Disclosure: I've worked for the Commission for the last seventeen years. Mike
