The IAC Strikes Again (with glitter)!

author: IAC President 2008
Aug 31, 2007 13:29

The International Anarchist Conspiracy, popularly known for its glitter(magic)-filled water balloon attack on the Minutemen in Seattle has struck again---this time in Tacoma.

Somewhere in the dark, industrial heart of Tacoma, hanging on a fence was a sign in support of Ron Paul, the favorite fascist, anti-immigrant presidential candidate of the Minutemen and their nationalist ilk. (By the way, it was a shitty banner. Very poorly made. Pretty sad.) The sign read "RON PAUL / PRESIDENT 2008".

Activists from the IAC magically changed the banner right there---through the sheer power of their wizardly minds.

When the cloud of sorcerer smoke had cleared and pixie dust (or was it pixie sticks?) floated to the ground, the anarchist witches and warlocks were gone.

Yet the Ron Paul banner remained. Only over the original words are "Destroy Nationalism (A) / (E) Tear Down All Borders." Glitter covered the new words and sparkled in the sunshine---filling us with hope for the new world we are building.

Rumour has it that the IAC worked this magic that night to point out what Ron Paul and his followers stand for: nationalism, anti-immigration, racism, and ultimately, fascism."

Although it does not matter who gets elected. People will be there to fight whatever authoritarian jerk fills the position. We can not settle for any politician to rule our lives. We will only be happy when every single individual has control over their means of survival and their lives, and every community has control over local decision making.

Of course, we will not stop fighting then. We may have to keep fighting to keep the continuous revolution going. We will never reach a utopia. We will keep fighting the fascists and authoritarians and our own conditioned tendencies toward hierarchical expression.

But today the IAC sent a message to Ron Paul, his supporters, and everyone else who sees the sign: these leaders are nationalist and racist and we will fight them wherever they have or seek power.

*This message was not endorsed by the IAC. It may be dangerous (or beneficial) to your health. Side effects may include the desire to fight politicians and minutemen, picking up random sticks and trying to use them as magic wands, and cultivating a sense of collective struggle and belonging, because you are not the only one *

Do you actually approve of

Do you actually approve of defacing political signs like this?  How about taking political signs from other people's property?

Groups that would take this road as a means to communicate their message are sad, pathetic and uninformed (or maybe just narrowly informed, I don't know).  Make your own sign - speak your own message, but leave others alone.

Moving further and further into the fringe.

Notice this was directed at a presidential candidate who is supported by nazis and other fascists and racists like the minutemen and the John Birch society. Ron Paul wants to militarize our borders and shoot at people coming over. F his yard signs and his racist message, keep it out of my town.

This wasn't directed at some hard working local candidate, it was directed at a super rich a-hole whose nationalistic views coincide with Hitler. Your sense of ethics have you sticking up for the wrong person.

Oh, and I'd rather not hear your judgments, I think I've said this before. Let's talk constructively or not talk at all.

I don't even now what to

I don't even know what to say.  Defacing a political sign is highly constructive, I guess.  Who cares what Ron Paul wants?  Don't vote for him.  I'm f*cking sick and tired of everyone on here who wants to mute others because of their beliefs.  We get that you don't agree with them.  What I don't get is why it's OK to be a fool about it.

I don't know if you've

I don't know if you've noticed this about me or not but I'm not one of those sit on his ass types who spout opinions at a computer and does nothing about it. I want to get out and make it clear to racist and fascists that they have no place here, or among my friends in Tacoma, Seattle, or Portland. I do want to mute Ron Paul, because someone with his money and influence provokes a lot of violence and hatred toward people who are simply trying to get by in the only way this fucked up global economy will allow. You're the fool for turning a blind eye to the suffering of others. When they decide to come after you for your lifestyle or what you look like or believe in there'll be no one left to help you.

Who says I'm turning a blind

Who says I'm turning a blind eye?  There are other ways to express your disapproval of a group or individual.  Marking up signs or taking the low road seems to be the only way folks like you feel you're heard.  That message doesn't resonate beyond your inner circle, that's all.

How about this

You do things your way, I'll do them mine. I won't criticize you without providing some constructive ideas, you don't criticize me without providing some constructive ideas. Telling me I'm taking the low road or using terms like "folks like you" as if I'm a circus freak or something isn't getting us anywhere.

The message does resonate beyond the inner circle, I know it does because the circle is growing.

I would love to hear some ideas as to how to better actively engage in making sure racists and fascists are put in their place other than humiliating them or not allowing them the public square.
