Hundreds of thousands are taking to the streets after the passage of the most repressive anti-immigrant legislation in 70 years. And in Seattle, latino workers are being targeted by the minutemen. I have made a flier out of an article by Jesse Jackson which succinctly ties the economic, racial and repression issues together. I am posting it here for people to download and reproduce.

When a person is here

When a person is here illegally, they are not supposed to be in this country at all.

Domestically speaking, the US government was created to be a service to US citizens and foreign citizens to whom we have given permission to be in this country.

If you don't fall into either of those categories, you have no claim to make against our government or laws.

Except...

...that there are human rights that are more important that US law. This is one thing that seems to confuse folks on the right side of the spectrum, laws made by countries are NOT AN EXCLUSIVE LIST. There can be other considerations in addition to civil laws.

We cannot be the shelter of

We cannot be the shelter of the Western hemisphere if we want to continue to enjoy a certain quality of life.
»

Then we have some work to do...

...in other countries. Europe went through the same problem as they transitioned to the EU. Ireland was an exporter of people looking for jobs until there were large investments in infrastructure. Now Ireland is a big importer of people looking for jobs. The same is true for Greece, Spain, and Turkey. If we invest in countries in our hemisphere so there are good paying jobs there in the local ecomony, then folks won't need to come here to work.

Yeah, sign me up to invest

Yeah, sign me up to invest my money in some mom and pop stores in Mexico.........or I could just build a bonfire with my portfolio......at least that way I would get something for my money,,,,a little warmth.

Rick, on one hand you tout the Union line, but now you sound like you are supporting World Trade.......Guido and the boys at the union hall are going to be making you some concrete shoes.

I think I read about 70% of

I think I read about 70% of the country is in favor of strengthening immigration laws and enforcing the laws already on the book.

I trust everyone is working hard at the Democracy Now organization, plotting how they will promote the will of the people.

Fair trade

It's a concept that doesn't get much attention, but makes a lot of sense for everyone. If we let the corporations keep writing the treaties, then there will always be an imbalance in economies. If we wrote treaties that included equity with respect to environmental and labor practices, we'd have less of an issue with immigration.

Ok, I think I understand

Ok, I think I understand what Rick and a few others want for the world.

One world government.

One world economy.

The government provides everything, jobs, healthcare, retirement, schooling to include college, etc. They give you a roof over your head too.

Everybody gets the same wage, lets say $1000.00 a month, regardless of training, experiance or job title. So the brain surgeon gets the same wage as the janitor.

Everything is government ran, clothing stores, grocery stores, car stores, so you only need one of each. One car maker, that makes one car, one pickup, one semi. A loaf of bread or a gallon of milk cost the same in Iraq as in the US as in Mexico.

If you can work you get your 1000.00 a month. If you cant work due to disability or disease, you get 1000.00 a month. If you want to work, but there is no work, you get 1000.00 a month. And maybe, if you dont want to work, you get 1000.00 a month.

Sound about right??

As far as your comment about making a lot of sense for everyone,,,,maybe your side of the line not mine.......I'm very thankful that only a very small percentage of this country have the views many have here on this blog.

But it's fun to come visit your world here, just to see how you think...

If you just make stuff up...

...then you won't really understand what other people are saying.
