Many people showed up at Heritage Park over the past couple days for the International Day of Peace festivities. It was quite a celebration. There was music, conversations with different peace groups and activists from various locations including Afghanistan, Israel, and Palestine, a planet Earth ball, the major continental land masses were outlined in a huge map on the lawn, and there were many banners with the word peace written on them in different languages.

Let there be peace on earth...
and let it begin with me. A grand a glorius day of sun, fun and wonderful people. Especially moving was a letter of recognition to the Afgan Youth Peace Volunteers in Bamiyan Province written and read (via skype) by Andrea LeBlanc, who lost her husband in the 9/11 Trade Center debacle. She is a leader of September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows.
She wrote and spoke to them. "I would like to come there (Afghanistan) and give all you young people a grandmotherly hug."

Thanks for adding, Terry.
There was so much to this great event, sponsored by the FOR, VFP, and Media Island International (MII), among others.
There was the Buddhist peace walk in silence around the lake, led by Miles. People didn't really understand the instruction to walk single file, which caused me some distress, but then that's life for ya, eh!
I also liked the prayer that Miles did for the people around the world—to heal from the wounds of war.
There must have been hundreds of people, if not more, who stopped in over the course of the festival.
I hope IDoP festivities happen again next year!
(other report-backs would be welcome by me.)
