Where do you live? Do you own or rent? Live with your parents, couch surf? Are you currently houseless?
» How much are you paying each month? What do your utilities usually come out to? For home/property owners how much are you paying in taxes? Are you living where you want to? If not, where would you like to be? What is your (reasonable) living goal? Maybe Jim G-Man can set up another chart.

We've just moved to Crowne
Submitted by Merwyn Haskett on Wed, 11/07/2007 - 12:32pm.Rent is $755 a month for a two-room. They pay for water (which is awesome since we have a dishwasher and washer/dryer.) We pay electricity, and haven't gotten our first bill yet. We didn't pay electricity at our last place so I'm not sure what to expect yet. Obviously we don't pay any property taxes.
We'd rather live in a house. We don't need acres of property, but we'd like to not be able to spit on the neighbor's wall either. However, compared to Heritage Park where we came from we've got a really nice place. My only structural complaint is that the walls are so paper-thin. Either our downstairs neighbor has sex a lot, or he needs a lot more fiber in his diet.

My Living Info
Submitted by JstPlnOnry on Wed, 11/07/2007 - 1:03pm.I live in the Hidden Ridge/Cedrona/Madera area off Kaiser Rd. by TESC. We own a home we moved into 9 years ago and our mortgage payment is $2400.00 a month. Our utilities vary between summer & winter but an average is water, gas, electric, phone, cable, internet runs about $600 to $700 a month. My husband does the tax stuff, (I'm just responsible for paying the bills & doing the grocery shopping) so I'm not really sure what our property taxes are currently but it I recall he mentioned them being close to $8,000 a year or 2 ago.
I'm not living where I'd like to be because our homeowners association is a pain in the ass, as are the nazi's who run it, and I can't really say I'm very happy with Capital High School but I'll spare you the gory details. I'd prefer to be on the water but know that's unrealistic for our income so this is my reasonable living goal.

Submitted by Merwyn Haskett on Wed, 11/07/2007 - 1:18pm.The entire year's payments you've estimated for your home is more, way more, than lots of couples make combined. (Shoot, I'm even remembering the bill for one of your daughter's text messages you shared with us, lol) Sounds like the two of you are doing well for yourselves. Even then, there's still dreams that, for the moment at least, are unattainable. I'm sure there's a lesson for all of us in there somewhere.

Honeslty
Submitted by JstPlnOnry on Wed, 11/07/2007 - 1:31pm.If it hadn't been for my husbands foresight at 15 to start saving & investing and his ability to be extremely intelligent and do well in school and college, we may not be living the lifestyle we do now.
He has a masters in Computer Science, leading to his hiring as a Principal Software Engineer at Intel Corp. He's received numerous awards and bonuses for his job skills and ability to initiate new projects and save dying ones.
Trust me, if I was a single mom (as I was prior to marrying him) or he left me today, I'd be lucky to live in a tent! I have no job skills, haven't worked in 10 years and 2 teenage kids to support. Prior to our marriage, I worked a minimum wage job and had to have my kids live with their father because he was more financially secure and prepared to pay for their needs. That was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life. So I see both sides of the fence. And before anybody says I married for money, I had no idea what he had financially prior to our marriage and didn't ask any questions after. He came to me & told me what I needed to know should anything happen to him.
My kiddo's last cell phone text messaging record last month was 9200! Thank goodness AT&T offers a new plan where all phones on a family plan get unlimted text messaging for $30.00 a month now! And that's not per phone! That's $30.00 a month for up to 4 phones on a family plan!

My wife and I are new home owners and there's no way I'm tellin' how much we pay for our mortgage. Renting was definately cheaper!

Submitted by Ehver Green on Wed, 11/07/2007 - 1:47pm.An older neighborhood (built in the early to mid 70's) but our house was built in 2003. The lot was purchased by an adjacent homeowner and he sat on it for years. In the process of building himself a new home he inherited 660 acres in Arkansas. Our sale price was deeply discounted because he needed the money to get to Arkansas.
Our monthly payment is ~$1,200 for 1867 sqft. With 3 kids it's cozy but I enjoy close living quarters. I do have a post-constrution office in the garage that I built for work space (I work from home 2-3 days a week). I could live here forever if we had one more bedroom.
At some point we'll move but I'm not sure where. Ideally I'd like to live near the ocean (Grayland/Wesport area) with neighbors in sight but far enough away that I can pee off my back porch. Nothing like peeing outside. My only real motivation for not having neighbors is not to be hassled over my lifestyle or my choices in life. And the porch thing...

Submitted by emmettoconnell on Wed, 11/07/2007 - 2:13pm.I'm so Boulevard, when I start a new fantasy baseball/football team, I always name them "The Boulevard Irish."
We've lived in our current home since 2003, I grew up in a house just about a mile away. We have just under 1500 square feet on a .2 acre lot. Around 1980 construction, just about when the bottom fell out of the market back then, so a builder buddy of mine told me they put a lot of extra work into the house to make it sellable.
Our mortgate is ~$1200 with taxes about $2,000 a year or so.
But, we are looking to move at some point. I married a girl from Tumwater, so she's always thinking of ways to get us to move to move down south. I'm Olympia, so I'd rather stay here, but looking at 1900 square feet, it might be kind of hard to find.

Submitted by OperaGirl on Wed, 11/07/2007 - 3:31pm.Let's see. We bought our house about 5 years ago. We live off of Boulevard Rd. as well. We started out with 1400 square feet and a mortgage of about 1200 a month. We recently remodeled our kitchen and added a music studio for the piano/plethora of sheet music/computer/my art supplies and also made the family room bigger and put in hardwood floors in the exsisting living and dining rooms. So now we have 1800 square feet and our mortgage is 1600 per month. Gas and electric are around 75 per month, water/garbage/recycle is about 140/150 every other month.

Scott Lake "Have"
Submitted by Anonymously Larry on Wed, 11/07/2007 - 3:40pm.Our community is made up of "haves" and "have nots". We happen to be lucky enough to afford to be a "have".
.20 acres, 1200 sq ft rambler with full garage and full storage shed, on the golf course. $1,700 a month, but that represents 100% financing, with seller paying the closing, thus we moved in for $500 (playing the cash flow game and winning so far)
Mrs Larry and I are empty nesters, both work full time at slightly better than average incomes and I have a second income with my music.
Everyday that I drive by other parts of my community, I'm thankful for what I have today, and remember that there were times in my life that I wasn't quite so "flush".
