What goes on between consenting adults in none of my business, and I wish they would have kept it that way.

The homosexual crowd claims they have no interest in chidren, yet their "lifestyle" is being forcibly marketed to children in the public schools, as we have seen this week in the local area.

Parents were not notified, and the children were not told they could opt out of the "presentation".

If that's not forcible indoctrination, then tell me what is.

uh

After reading the article in the O I'm thinking that the real story isn't QUITE as nefarious as you make it sound. I'm not sure I agree with the schools decision %100 but it really doesn't sound like they were trying to "forcibly market" a lifestyle to a bunch of tweens.

»

Strange...

When I read this headline, I thought you were going to be talking about the way schools are feeding kids junk food, installing soda machines, selling out their sports teams to corporate sponsors, and forcing the students to watch TV (with advertising) in class. Because I've observed that children are definitely being marketed a consumer lifestyle in schools.

How was it marketed? What

How was it marketed? What were they selling? If merely telling people they exist is indoctrination then look at what the Heterosexual Agenda has done with their televised weddings and prom nights.

woah there

Were you one of the guys who beat Bill Clayton unconscious a month before he died?

While I completely agree that Indie-V's post and title are ridiculous (read: my opinion), jumping from one to even sarcastically asking if Indie-V was involved in a hate crime is absolutely uncalled for here. Both your and Janet's points are plenty salient without.

Perhaps, perhaps not. The

Perhaps, perhaps not. The attutude that equates mentioning its existence with indoctrination goes hand-in-hand with the attitude that jocks squashing gays is the best thing about America.

That is the most blatent example of false advertising since my suit against the movie The NeverEnding Story

the wrong conditional

I agree: If you are of the opinion that jocks squashing gays is the best thing about America, then (with the mutant exception) you do equate the mere mention of homosexuality with acceptance indoctrination. However, it is hardly true that if one believes talking about homosexuality is an indoctrination into cultural acceptance then you're all about beating up gay people.

In fact, the more I think about the mechanism of language being a vehicle for cultural attitudes and policies, the more I agree and think that bringing discussion of homosexuality into our public school system is indoctrination of cultural acceptance. And I think it's the right and proper thing to do.

Is this a morality issue in your eyes IV?

ie any exposure to homosexuality (I hope your children don't watch TV or walk around Olympia) is the devil?
»

Independent Voter

Remember, you have some unfinished business here first to attend to.
»

Unfinished business

Yes, IV does have some unfinished business. As long as that business remains unsettled, more people like IV are going to feel free to post this kind of abuse, ignoring those of us asking for accountability, and blithely continue as if nothing happened. This has been a topic in a few posts during the last week, and here we have a current example.
»

I'll tell you what is forcible indoctrination

Any of the posts by Independant Voter would constitute forcible indoctrination. I'm inclined to believe that Independant Voter is a parody character, one of those characters on Saturday Night Live that hears things all wrong and then comes up with these wild posts to condem the things that were misheard. It is funny on TV, kind of sad if the person is really serious.

Nobody hates like the tolerant, diverse left

The comments here are proof for all to see.

Homosexuality is a perversion in my opinion. I have seen the results in many close to me, and will never change my opinion of the so-called lifestyle. If they are not indeed interested in children then why are these school indoctrination sessions so secret and forced upon the children by the schools?

All you adults are free to go and get in a big pile if you want.

Just leave kids out of it.

I gave you all the chance in the world above.

I tried being nice about it, I did not attack you, I asked you questions and this is what you give.

Think what you want about homosexuality, I really don't care because I stopped trying to convince people, with closed minds, about things that I knew they would never even try to see the other viewpoint.

I can tell you this: I was "indoctrinated" at a young age. My Mom's best friend was about as gay as they come. I spent a LOT of time around him and had no idea he was any different until I was a teen. I freaked out, the guy had seen me naked in a locker room for crying out loud! At 13 though, I had the mental capacity to think back and realize that he had all chances in the world to do something to me, "indoctrinate" me, or whatever, and he never did. Gay isn't a synonym for pedophile, and they certainly aren't trying to pull people onto "their" side. There is no side in this fight.

The school should have given parents more input and more time to respond. The school should focus on NO bullying of ANYONE. It shouldn't be focused on gays/lesbians, or flat-chested girls, or kids with pimples or kids who refuse to shower or don't wear the right clothing. Just my opinion, but with ALL of that in mind there is no huge doctrination. I'm sure those kids heard less at school than they have through the media. You give Drew a run for his money as far as paranoia.

Oh, and just because we accept other folks' lifestyles, does NOT mean we are going to jump in a big pile with anyone. I'm not sure if that was your attempt at humor, but you didn't even get a chuckle out of me....and I'm pretty easily amused.

There are little kids who know they are gay

Most adult homosexuals report that they knew they were gay or lesbian from a very young age. No one "made" them that way through a process of "indoctrination." I think it's important to accept them, and make them feel accepted as they are. Our sexual orientation isn't forced upon us by other people. We're born with it. I am intrigued by the psychological processes that would cause someone (presumably an adult heterosexual) to feel such great concern that homosexuality will be imposed unwillingly upon innocent children. No one makes you gay; you just are, or you aren't. If you are, you should learn early in life that being gay is acceptable, and you are just as lovable and worthy as everyone else.

Given that you will never change your opinion...

...I invite you to find a different venue to vent your anger. We welcome people who want to engage in a conversation -- where there is a two-way exchange of ideas. If you can't hold an open mind, then you're not really interested in community.

To tell you the truth, I

To tell you the truth, I have no problem engaging on this blog with someone who won't change their mind.  I don't think Olycop is going to change his mind on the issue of homosexuality and morality, but I didn't at all mind talking about it with him (when was that, a year ago?).

Having a closed mind is different from hate-speech, though.  While IV hasn't used any slurs yet, the stuff he's spewing has an eerie similarity to some of the anti-semitic conspiracy theories I have heard out of the mouths of neo-nazi's.

Given the direction he's going here, along with his history at the Olympian comments (and it really takes something to be banned from that forum), it wouldn't bother me a bit if he was banned from this site.

More hate spewing from the tolerant diverse left, no surprises

It's always interesting how the farther a person is to the Stalinist Olympia left, the less they are able to deal with a person who simply disagrees.

You kind, diverse family oriented folks still haven't answered my question on just why the homosexual deviants are so interested in presenting their "lifestyle" to children.

Where's Larry when you need him?

»

I see.

When you engage in name-calling, slander, and intolerance it's just disagreeing. When we ask you to play nice or move along, it's hate. Thanks for clearing that up.

Excuse me

But this kind, diverse, family-orient folk did a few hours before you posted this accusation answer your question as to why it's important to talk to children about acceptance and self-acceptance. There are children who already know they are gay. They need to know that they can find acceptance, love, and hopefully, safety, despite being a member of a minority that is often, obviously, as you are clearly demonstrating, persecuted.

We answered you, but in case you missed it:

Larry is IV's sweetheart liberal over on the Olympian comments.  I think that, now that IV's banned over there, he must miss Larry an awful lot.

Monday Night School Board Meeting

I went to the school board meeting last night, along with a large crowd of Stonewall Youth supporters, other parents who want anti-bullying, anti-harassment assemblies in the public schools, and ONE parent who objected to the assembly that happened at Washington Middle School. Fifteen people spoke during the public comment period in support of Stonewall Youth, and a lot of other supporters came but didn't speak. One of those who did make a comment was the father of a Washington Middle School student. He criticized the Olympian's coverage of parental reaction to this event, noting that the Olympian quoted parents who objected to the assembly, but didn't say anything about the majority of parents who, like him, were happy to have Stonewall Youth speaking at the school, attempting to curtail discrimination against GLBTQ youth.

I had to sort of admire the one parent who complained about the assembly; it must have been pretty uncomfortable to take a minority position in that crowd! But his comments were a little strange: "We encourage our daughters to be modest. They're not allowed to wear make-up, just lip gloss and glitter." What? What does that have to do with anything? Afterward, a crowd of people stood in the hall outside the Board meeting room, dialoguing with this guy. Again, I had to admire his willingness to discuss things while so outnumbered, but it was really clear he just didn't get it. At one point, he said something to the effect that the Stonewall Youth presentation was about sex. Well, I've heard a Stonewall Youth panel speak, and it's not about sex at all. It's about the discrimination and ostracism these kids face. But he just wouldn't accept that, saying "C'mon, admit it, it's about sex." It was weird. He seemed to conceptualize the whole issue as being about sexual innocence versus deviant seduction, while everyone else present saw it as an issue of discrimination versus tolerance.

In any case, it was great to see so many people turn out in support of Stonewall Youth, and I felt very encouraged by the attitude of the school board members, who affirmed their commitment to promoting a safe atmosphere for ALL students in our schools.

Well, ....we meet again

An informational presentation on a biological issue like homosexuality or heterosexuality is not "marketing" it's education.  Schools present programs like this to overcome the ignorance about homosexuality and to dispute the untruths that are spread.
