As I perused my Voter's Guide a few minutes ago, I took much delight in some of the bios and pictures (go Prophet Atlantis!! You might want to consult a campaign manager next time you write a bio). But, as much as I try, I just can't remember the details about Matthew Green's previous departure from the council. I remember some sort of verbal threats and aggressive behavior, but I don't remember the details. Maybe there's someone out there that has a better memory or can help me find out more info...

Those involved
Submitted by Sarah on Sun, 08/05/2007 - 6:09pm.Green allegation detailed
Here is a start, you could also search for more info on Matthew Green and Jeanette Hawkins, those are the main two involved.
You could also contact Matthew Green directly through http://www.matthewgreen.org/ http://matthewgreen.org/contact
I'd strongly recommend contacting Matthew personally...
Submitted by Phil Owen on Sun, 08/05/2007 - 6:57pm....he's a great guy and I'm certain he'd love to answer any questions you may have.
Matthew was accused of all kinds of awful things following the incidents to which you referred, including misogyny. Honestly I don't think those events had anything to do with Matthew being misogynistic; Matthew was purely guilty of being thin skinned. Jeanette had been needling him and insulting him; the final straw was when she made a nasty comment about his education.
Matthew, if you talk to him, will very likely say that he apologized, that he recognizes how very inappropriate his behavior was, and that he's learned from his mistake. This is all true. What he probably won't tell you is that Jeanette's behavior was also extraordinarily inappropriate, and that she was never called to the carpet for it as he was.

Is this the same Jeanette Hawkins?
Submitted by Anonymously Larry on Sun, 08/05/2007 - 7:04pm.I ran a google yesterday, after reading the LTE on Green. Is Jeanette Hawkins the same person that left the council to go to work for Edward Jones and is now Tri Vo's assistant?

And don't forget...
Submitted by Phil Owen on Sun, 08/05/2007 - 7:07pm.to ask him about his record in office! Matthew accomplished some pretty great stuff. He blew the whistle when the council was having secret meetings, and made a big push for open government. He worked on getting a parks and sidewalks measure passed. He led the council's successfull struggle against Eli Moreno, the Forest Glen slumlord who's negligence was seriously harming tenants. And he helped stop the conference center project, the funding for which has been redirected to the Hands On Childrens Museum.
Matthew could tell you quite a bit more about what he's worked on, and what he plans to work on.

Thanks Sarah, for the link
Submitted by Anonymously Larry on Sun, 08/05/2007 - 7:10pm.I have to laugh a bit at someone complaining that there was "profanity" used between adults. If that is the most that a person can complain about, in reference to another, it's almost humorous.
I don't know Green and could care less about City Council races in Olympia, but it's obvious that Green got jobbed.

Thank you!
Submitted by Marcie on Sun, 08/05/2007 - 7:40pm.Thank you for the comments!. I plan on contacting not only Matthew, but some of current and previous Council members that both endorse him and served on the Council with him during the events.
Profanity between adults is fine by me, I'm from Jersey and definately have honed my skills in talking like a gangster. However, I do expect Council members and other city/state/federal representatives to conduct themselves in a manner that is not devisive or isolating to any member of the community, whether one is interesting in their work or not.
You talkin' ta me?
Submitted by Anonymously Larry on Sun, 08/05/2007 - 7:51pm.If you're from Jersey, then you'll identify with the concept that sometimes "poo-poo" doesn't get the same point across as "shit"
