It seems that, last Thursday afternoon, I experienced a minor stroke (TIA) while at work.  Either that episode or a subsequent TIA has limited the usage of my left hand.  I spent the weekend at St. Pete's.

Part of my rehab will be typing, but it is very difficult as I don't have sensation in my left hand, thus I miss a lot of keys and have to correct typos.  I'll try to communicate and use Olyblog as a therapeutic aid, but my posts will be short.

I was just reading Onry's blog on not shutting down posts.  I have to support her 100% on this.  Knowing right now how difficult it it for me to communicate my thoughts, the need to be brief and to the point could be miscontrued by some as being "vitolic", especially if there is some emotion on what is being said.

Please be patient with me as I work my way though this challenge.  Most of my cognative thinking is OK, but I do get a bit confused a times and might come out on blog sounding different than what I intend.

I'll stay in touch as I can.

Hope all your synapses are snappy soon

Larry, I've enjoyed your contributions to this forum as well as to the "O", so take good care of yourself so those cerebral connections will mend, OK?

I'm banned from the Olympian

you have a great memory   ;)

May the Force be with you, Larry!

...could this be the begining of a singing career?

...or maybe a new collaboration.

Be well.

I'm actually a vocalist by trade

My left hand piano work consists of octave bass notes, for the most part.  I haven' had the courage to try vocals, as I know I've lost some sensation in my throat also (I notice it swallowing).  I get pretty depressed when things don't work right, so I'm taking it slow.

Thanks Yoda.

Bummer, Larry

What's the prognosis? Will sensation return to your left hand? I hope your recovery is swift...

Occupational therapist says

pretty much a full recovery should take places, but it may take time.  Thanks.

I thought of you while I was nettle picking, Larry

I thought to myself, if I were Larry right now, I could just leave off my gloves and pick these with my left hand! A small silver lining to a big cloud, I know. I managed to get stung on both hands -- both middle fingers. I wonder if the nettles were trying to tell me something?

Thank your nettles

Hey Fellow Old Guy

We celebrate the fact you survived. Rest up and we'll be thinking, praying, meditating about you or whatever it is each one of us does. Take each day as it comes and be well.
»

Best to you, AL

brevity works for me. (insert healing, blinking, winkie-con of your choice with stethoscope here (I guess brevity does not extend to emoticons for me))

Hope you don't mind hearing

Hope you don't mind hearing the same old "Get Well" and "Best Wishes" from me that others have already given you ;-)

»

Thanks to everyone

I can't hear it too much and responding is therapy.
»

Rapid recovery be yours :)

Thanks for letting us know and we all hope your recovery goes smooth and quick.
»

Another thanks

"thanks" is a word I have trouble typing (it was the indicator that something was wrong).

Therefore, I'll type it as many times as possible.

Thanks

Are you normally right-handed or left-handed?

I can tell you from experience that when you lose some functionality of your main hand...

things like brushing your teeth and wiping your ass becomes big frustrations.

»

I'm right handed

Too much information, Yoda...LMAO

Please Larry!

Don't defame my morning diet! I was so sorry to hear about the TIA and here's wishing you a complete and speedy recovery! My best to Mrs. Larry too and glad she is so supportive. Christie

How's Mrs. Larry holding up?

Is she doing okay? Has she had to take over many of your household responsibilities? Is she stressed out? Please tell her that little Fuzz is doing really well, and I hope she is making out okay.
»

Incognito, hmmm

Mrs is the most wonderful person in the world.  She is a trooper and is holding up well.

Thanks for asking.

»

Aww, Larry

I'm really sorry that this happened. As the wife of the previously inflicted Yoda, I know how hard this recovery can be for both of you & Mrs L. When Yoda lost the use of his right hand for an extended time, I spent alot of time being that hand (no, i didn't wipe his butt - gross). Please recover quickly and with strength. Tell Mrs. Larry, although I'm sure she knows, that she is an angel and that her attitude and resilience will be key to your recovery. If you feel comfortable, PM me your address and we'll drop you off one of our fabulous "get well" lasagnas, sure to mend any body part in mach time.

Catching up on thanks

Chia and Marcie.  Of course everyone else, anohter round of thanks.  A special thanks to Marcie for changing the visual image in my mind about a certain activity with Yoda's ....uh....backside

I'll PM our address and phone to those that ask, As I'd love the company and a few laughs.  Piano playing is one of my hand therapies, as is guitar.  Since I'm equipped with both, who knows what fun might take place.  By the way, Yoda I finally drew the courage to try out my voice.  Other than a bit of rasp and a slight limit on range, everything seems to be OK.

Love and more thanks to ALL

Hey Larry

Another day! May it be good one for you.

I'm vertical, Brother

That makes it a great day!

wow

I just now "get" the title of this blog. I thought you mispelled the word "absence" but considering

your recent health things I wasn't going to say anything and I figured... anyway.

Man, do I feel dim.

That was my ignorance, not my hand.
