Via One Pissed Off Vetran. When Brian Baird tried to visit the troops from Taskforce Olympia in Kuwait, here's what happened:

He contacted the commanding general of Task Force Olympia and was told that they would not allow him to make an official visit as a congressman and not be able to ask questions of the troops because -- get this -- That fat bastard, the Squeaker of the Hose, one Denny Fat-boy Clogged-arteries Supersize-me Make-that-three-triple- cheeseburgers Hastert issued an edict that no Democratic congressman could speak to the troops without a Repugnican sewer rat being present.

Rick,
I am unable to see the entire text of the article you quote. Can you give me a quick breakout of what the blog states?

Town Hall Meeting Shocker

I just got home from a "town hall" type of meeting with my congressman, Brian Baird (Washington 3rd). He's a smart, personable, even-tempered guy who's good at thinking on his feet, which I guess is why he keeps winning elections. He and I have disagreed over the years on some issues (e.g., Terri Shiavo, flag burning), but he's in the forefront of fighting for veterans' benefits, supporting veterans' issues and funding veterans' health care, so by and large he's way better than whatever knuckledragger the Repugs have thrown -- or can throw -- up against him.

But he told an absolutely appalling story about what happened when he and his wife attempted to travel to Kuwait to make a personal visit to a group of National Guard troops from right here in this district who had been deployed to Kuwait and were on the verge of going into Iraq.

And people still wonder why we need to get that slavering pack of corrupt GOP bastards out of there.

Thanks Rick. One comment tho

Thanks Rick. One comment though ... Task Force Olympia was in Mosul, not Kuwait, so I'm not sure if the blog accurately depicts who Baird spoke with.

I'd say that there are "slave

I'd say that there are "slavering...corrupt...bastards" out there on both sides of the aisle. Attacking them as specifically GOP gives them strength, because it associates them with an established platform. These war mongers, these bottom liners who don't have the peoples' best interests at heart don't belong in government, certainly not in elected office - whichever party they have decided to leech onto.

I don't really believe this.

I don't really believe this. I have sent an email to Baird directly about this and will report his reply as soon as I recieve it. It just doesn't seem plausible to me, and I hope to get to the bottom of it.

Okay, maybe if you'd actually

Okay, maybe if you'd actually gone to the town hall meeting and heard it for yourself, the way I did, you'd believe it.
BTW, the troops were in Kuwait while they were awaiting deployment to Iraq.
I await the response from Baird's office which I hope will be posted here. In the meantime, if anyone else was at that meeting, would you please log in and verify what I heard.
I can understand the reluctance to believe this -- I'd have doubts about its veracity, too, if I hadn't been there to hear it myself.

Did Baird give any indication

Did Baird give any indication about when this happened? That info might help out in understanding the Kuwait/Mosul question. Ps: Welcome Farnsworth.

Yeah, he did, but it was a lo

Yeah, he did, but it was a long meeting and I wasn't taking notes -- I can't recall now the exact time frame he was talking about.
I'm more than a little surprised that the Daily Zero didn't have a story on it. Maybe they didn't even have a reporter there. Figures.
Oh, and thanks for the welcome.
