Two restaurants at Capital Mall, Thai Garden and Olive's East, will be closing soon. Their leases end in February. For a new lease they would have to move to The Promenade, where construction is underway now, plus their rent would more than triple.

Triple. Both of those businesses at that location will be missed by many.

My wife and I were coming

My wife and I were coming back from out of town and we were talking about Olives East closing shop. She told me the story of her first cup of coffee at Olives East when she was 10.

That place was just about the last good thing about the mall, a place I've stopped going to since the opening of Best Buy (sound pollution) and since Macy's took over the Bon. I don't know what they're trying to do over there, but keep it local, they are not. I remember when there was a Burrito Heaven, Popinjay and Greg Klue jewlery, and that wasn't that long ago. Now, I might as well be shopping in Orange County.

I'm hoping Olives East finds a new home.

Good to know that I'm not the only one who can't handle Best Buy when it is at its full boominess, painful to be in there when they have everything turned up.

Thai Garden was a peaceful restaurant, they did a good job at providing food and respite. Olives East also I hope finds a new home, they had actual good coffee.

Keri said it well: "They were a cool coffee shop before they had all those cool coffee shops. Never was a big fan of the Thai Garden, but then again, it was nice to have a quiet, darker place in the mall.

I just found out about this today while Googling for Olive's East. This is kind of upsetting news, since I used to work at both places, and was hoping to visit them if I ever made my way back to Olympia. I've still got some great memories, but it looks like I can scratch the mall off my list of places to revisit.
