Here is a movie recommendation for DD, who is going to have a hard time in the future when all the "homos" win. This movie should help you adjust to what's in store. Quicktime Required (free download)

Submitted by The Fire Inside on Tue, 01/17/2006 - 7:12pm.Being negative, I actually have a hard time believing the film is this great simply because of the acting. I have a feeling much of the hoopla surrounding the film is related to the issue the film is addressing (for instance, Fahrenheit 9/11 received critical acclaim yet was what a great deal of people said a documentary shouldn't be). In short, I think an agenda is trying to be pushed.
Plus I have a difficult time believing the stars of Bubble Boy and A Knight's Tale made this great theatrical piece of work. The best piece of work between these two, Donnie Darko, wasn't great because of superb acting but because of the writing behind it.
I'm going to give it a chance, though. It just won't be in the movie theater.
EDIT: I should say I don't think there's anything wrong with making Brokeback Mountain. If you want to make a movie, make it. I'm specifically talking about the praise which has been heaped on this film. I don't even remember Philadelphia being hyped up this much (I compare to Philadelphia because they're both films which address controversial social issues of their time).
I just have a difficult time believing that Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal (even Jarhead was, in my opinion, pretty mediocre and brought little to the combat film genre) have had these outstanding, breakthrough performances. I'm just being cynical in that I think there are a lot of people, for better or worse, who want to make sure this film doesn't sink both commercially and critically.
I'll reserve future comment until I see the film.
I think you'll be surprised.
