The Nationalist Socialist Movement, is marching in Olympia, tomorrow Sunday, January 22nd at noon. They are meeting on the East side of Olympia, where 4th, State and Martin Way come together (1 block WEST of Ralph's)and then marching to Sylvester Park. We are meeting to protest their white supremacism and anti-semitism no later than 11:30 A.M. Some anti-Nazi protesters will also be at Sylvester Park, beginning at Noon, so that is a second place to go. Call your friends! Bring signs and noisemakers! No Nazis in Olympia, NO Nazis anywhere!

On olympiansforpeace@lists.ri

On olympiansforpeace@lists.riseup.net and elsewhere tonight the conversation is ongoing, I want to make sure that Anna Schlecht's recent contribution gets spread too, this copied from list:

Dear folks

I just spoke to Pastor Ashley of Risen Faith Church, they do NOT want a counter protest in front of their church.

I urge folks to respect their wishes and instead focus on the Sylvester Park counter-protest.

Please show respect for their faith community and heed their request.

UPDATE (from omjp, written by

UPDATE (from omjp, written by Larry Mosqueda) I want to encourage everyone to come to this event on Sunday. It will not go away if we ignore it and it will only get worse. Ignoring them is not an option nor is it fresh thinking. The main rally to establish ourselves at Sylvester Park will be at 12 noon or a little earlier where we will work for peace and justice. I talked to one of the Seattle anti-Nazi organizers and it appears that the Nazi's have cancelled their planned rally in Seattle and have relocated to Olympia. Perhaps they will see that they are not welcome in Olympia either. The other location for a beginning counter-protest should be ONE BLOCK WEST (near Ralph's) of the meeting point for the Nazi's. They will meet at 4th, State, Martin Way and Pacific and that is near an African American Church, so we need to not let any confrontation happen there. This is out of respect for the Church. However we can't let the Nazi's own the 24 blocks of streets that it will take to get to Sylvester Park. As they progress down the street to the Park, we will be non-violent, of course, but we don't need to act like Parisians in WW II who are just there to watch a parade, as these people occupy our streets. Please decide which place you want to be at. If they decide to leave before they reach Sylvester park, so much the better. This rally by the Nazi's is clearly a provocation by this group and a test to see if they can hold a larger rally in the summer as indicated by their press release. Please be intelligent and measured in your response.

Why stoop to their level?

Why stoop to their level?

Be a silent witness: fine.

Attempt to silence their speech: for what? Does their message have appeal?

It is important for us all to ask ourselves; what am I trying to accomplish?

I am concerned that the intention of these nazis is to disrupt and antagonize the community. By showing up to shout them down, the peace movement risks elevating the nazi's movement to legitimacy.

What political power do they have? Why lend them credibility and suggest that their's is an effective movement by showing up in "anti-protest?"

Remember this isn't the 1960's. They aren't going to beat up any non-whites, burn any crosses or churches (at least in the light of day while the OPD is there.)

A counter protest might make their movement seem more substantial than it really is.

Does that make any sense?

I agree with Rob Whitlock on

I agree with Rob Whitlock on this one. The Nazi (or even white supremacist) movement doesn't have political clout. Are they dangerous? Yes, they are.

But not in this context. When they hold these rallies it's for this reason: To get the community to come out, counter-protest, and given them media coverage.

When they're done they'll simply head back to rural Idaho/Montana and resume militia training.

i know some folks must have said some of the same stuff i am reading here back in Germany in the early 1930s. The nazis probably looked silly then but they surprised the world, didn't they? the nazis i saw today were out in our community to spew a doctrine of hate and advocate an agenda of ethnic cleansing. i heard it. i am proud that olympia showed up to shout them down and tell them to get lost. their fascist agenda is not welcome here. it wasn't just the peace movement out today. it was oly!
