Head on over to The Rambling Taoist, where Trey makes a good point about the NSM march in Olympia:

The Nazis are coming! The Nazis are coming! This is the call that is ringing out throughout the Olympia Peace Community. It seems the National Socialist Party (Nazis) are holding a rally and march today in Olympia, WA. The newspaper reports the organizers expect a contingent of only 15 or so.

Olympians for Peace plan a counter rally -- one that will drown out the Nazi message and will send the following message, "No Nazis in Olympia".

As a self-defined radical left winger, you might think I welcome such a counter rally and plan to be at the head of the procession. And, if you think this, you're wrong.

Do I agree with the Nazi message? Hell NO! I find it reprehensible, hateful and downright disgusting. BUT I also agree with the right of free speech and free assembly. Consequently, while I abhor all the Nazis stand for, I defend their right of free speech.

This makes sense to me. If the NSM were banned from marching, many of us would be outraged, and would protest to protect their right to exercise free speech.

In this type of situation,

In this type of situation, when we link to a post on someone else's blog, we should turn off comments on Olyblog and just write "discuss over at The Rambling Taoist" (for example).

Trey at TRT has comments up on his blog, he wrote his post there, and I think its best of keep the conversation at its beginning, just for the sake of being polite and inclusive.

Ah heck no, it is just something I noticed that they do down at Blue Oregon, and I think its awfully nice of them. For example, they posted this entry on the possibility of a Major League Baseball team relocating to Portland. Instead of opening a comment thread on their own blog, they point to the other blog they're referring to and suggest people discuss there. Its a way for much larger community blogs to share the love with their single-writer brothers.
