Annual homeless count comes Thursday

THE OLYMPIAN
Volunteers will hit the streets, shelters, food banks, wooded areas and schools across the county Thursday in the annual homeless count.
The census is key, officials say, because it helps them better understand why people become homeless and how to get them off of the streets. It also helps secure federal and state money to fund solutions.

No one will be counted twice, said Theresa Stoddard of the Housing Authority.
Volunteers will jot down first, middle and last initials, birth dates and gender for each person. The information will be entered into a database that automatically detects duplicates.

So far I'v got about five to cover downtown. I'm not sure how the other team leaders are doing.
