FRO is making my morning brighter. After airing a Democracy Now Amy Goodman interview with Harry Belafonte, FRO is treating us to the music of Belafonte, Tom Waits, Lennon and more. I'm happy.

Sarah, do you think it's right these guys are transmitting illegally?

I don't believe their actions

I don't believe their actions should be illegal. From what I've read, and I haven't read enough by any means, the airwaves should be available to the public and free speech should be supported.

Ok, but it is illegal. So should one condone it then? Listen to it? Fight against it? What?

I don't believe it should be illegal for an adult to drive without a seatbelt, but it is. I think it is stupid to drive without a seatbelt on, but it shouldn't be illegal.

Also if there wasn't regulation on RF emissions, you might not be able to receive anything due to interference.

Hey, FRO made someone's morning brighter!!! It may not be legal, but do you suggest its immoral to do something to brighten someone's day?

I didn't say anything about morality, just asking a question if its right FRO is transmitting illegally.

I'm a little perplexed why the FCC hasn't caught and prosecuted this group. It can't be for not being able to find them.

When you ask if something is

When you ask if something is "right", the implication is "is it moral?".

Therefore the following statement is self-contradicting (doublespeak):

"I didn't say anything about morality, just asking a question if its right FRO is transmitting illegally."

And this: "Also if there was

And this: "Also if there wasn't regulation on RF emissions, you might not be able to receive anything due to interference"

Unlicensed broadcasters want to be heard as much as any other station. Therefore it is not in the interest of any broadcaster licensed or unlicensed to create interference. The anecdotal "technical" data the FCC cites to back up that position dates to the situation before the communications act of 1934. radio technology has evolved alot since then. it is a matter of course for any responsible broadcaster to emit a clean signal. we don't need big brother to tell us when and how we can vibrate the molecules of the atmosphere. we are electromagnetic beings, after all.

there have always been radio pirates, there will always be radio pirates. criminalizing a behavior just makes more criminals.

and sarah, i am really glad fro brightened your morning! (especially with all this "seasonal affective disorder" going around!)
