The new owners plan to offer the building’s 27,000 square feet for retail, restaurant and office uses.

Wonderful location and buildi

Wonderful location and building, this could make a huge difference for downtown. Hopefully they can get the right mix of businesses. I look forward to seeing what evolves.

One that is successful for all concerned. Probably a mix of businesses that complement one another, to further encourage customers. Bookstore with coffee shop nearby is one example of that mix, might not be necessarily what that building and location needs.

If memory serves right, that building was the headquarters for the Daily Olympian in the 1950s-1960s. I remember taking a tour of it when I was a kid. It smelled of ink and was very noisy. Old Daily Olympian -- 1930 S.E. Corner of Capitol and State
The rectangular mission style building was one of prominent architect, Joseph Wohleb's most distinctive works. Wohleb came to Olympia from California around 1911 and was the city's most prolific architect for several decades. His predominantly stucco design Mission style incorporated tile insets, tile roofs, canopies and other Spanish detailing. The southern portion of the building along Capitol Way is a later addition.
