Observed during an afternoon of sun downtown:

  • Profusion of bicycles, skateboards, and baby carriages
  • Open jackets, lighter clothing worn and less layers
  • People looking ahead and up rather than down at their feet
  • Smiles along with dazed happy expressions
  • A goth girl in black and purple, dancing solo while watching her reflection in an empty storefront window
  • Overheard bus conversations about who thinks who is "hot"

My face is warm, and ever so

My face is warm, and ever so slightly burned from working on my car in the low slanting sunlight. The phone sits silent on its cradle, betraying the daydreams of my customers. Sunny days are slow for us, the first few weeks of Spring. My summer hair-don't feels like velvet now, two days after it all came off. Soon I will retire the sweaters to their hampers and the new shirts will come out of their plastic cocoons. Memories of this morning's frost linger like dreams, only half believed and unreal now in the orange afternoon.

Believe it or not, I had a headache. I blame the sun.

Sun can do that, I'm pretendi

Sun can do that, I'm pretending the one I have has nothing to do with that unusual bright stark sun today. Although it actually might have been triggered by looking at an especially badly designed web site with a horrible strobe pattern on it.

Up here on Harrison hill, the angle of the setting sun can be a headache trigger, imagine it is especially bad for drivers.

I'm fickle when it comes to sun.

"# People looking ahead and u

"# People looking ahead and up rather than down at their feet" That's totally backwards. The sun drives me eyes down to the ground. I look around more when it's raining.

I'm enjoying hearing how folk

I'm enjoying hearing how folks respond to weather. We can't assume any longer that sun = happy times for everyone or that rain = sad.

The worst part of NW Weather

The worst part of NW Weather for me is the summer - I like that it never becomes "muggy" or humid, but I hate the direct sunlight on my ears as I drive. It drives me nuts, so bad that I wear a hat and turn it sideways to shade my ear. I'm sure a few folks have thought I looked pretty weird. (That's not unusual, though - I have zero fashion sense, and I'm just not very vain about my appearances). I am happy when the sun comes out but it hides behind the clouds, with sunbreaks now and then - or when the sun hides behind a front out on the ocean as it sets, so the low slanting rays of evening are lighting the clouds from behind... that's purty.
