The Tacoma News Tribune covers a family-run operation in Olympia with an interesting mission:
Harlequin created a mission from the beginning to generate high-quality productions of new works, neglected works of merit and unconventional treatments of classics.

Okay, I have a live theater m

Okay, I have a live theater mystery for Olympia. In the 1960s (and maybe before) the Olympia School District herded hundreds of squirmy elementary students into the Capitol Theater once or twice a year where they would be treated to a play performed by Olympia High School drama students. This event was called "Junior Programs." For years, every performance was introduced by a little figure made out of plywood. It was a life size profile cut out in the figure of a boy in the costume of a royal page. Pointy hat, curly shoes, etc. He had a trumpet too. This ornament would be pushed out on stage, and then we could all hear a phonograph needle hit the groove of a scratchy 45 single and a royal theme would herald the arrival of the play. We heard it enough times to memorize every pop and scratch. Then the curtain would rise and the play would begin. The mystery is-- whatever happened to that plywood little guy? Long ago some OFS volunteers told me it was still hanging around backstage, but today it seems unaccounted for.
