I think that the States would be better off if they weren't so "United." I would like to see Northern California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho break off and sort of do their own thing for a while.
But then again, I am just a secessionist.

There is a history of social movements based in nonviolence to effect real change. Just because America has a history of violence, doesn't mean it has to be that way.
It's a choice that everyone has to make, everyday. The Buddha, Jesus, Gandhi, MLK, et al. would appreciate it if we all thought long and hard, and seriously about the relative violence v. nonviolence of our everyday actions, and how they contribute to the general social welfare.

If I remember correctly, I saw Drew Hendricks on TCTV talking about the federal government having too much power over the national guard in each state. I actually happen to agree with Drew on the issue (assuming I am recollecting this interview correctly).
Unfortunately, the Union answered the question of what the children could and could not do and, unlike Quebec in Canada (although the discussion has seemed to have been toned down a bit), nobody is going to have fortitude to bring the question to the table again.
