What Olympia establishment are you more likely to patronize now that it will not be filled with yucky, nasty, make-your-clothes-smell-for-days cigarette smoke? I do believe that I might like to shoot some pool at the Eastside Club.

I recommend seeing The Tune Stranglers play at The Brotherhood Tavern on Monday nights.

What a mind expanding thought

What a mind expanding thought! Let's see, I can try the Voyeur and Jake's now. And other places my son has told me about but I've never or rarely ventured into, because of smoke. Cigarette smoke is a reliable migraine-from-hell trigger for me.

Yeah, Rob - I've wanted to see the Tune Stranglers at the Brotherhood - will certainly take advantage of that. Also will head to the Spar for some of their stellar jazz (unless the owner's threat to sell actually wasn't political bluster). And the 4th Ave. Tavern has had some intriguing acts recently that I've skipped - such as Bat Makumba. Not having to sterilize afterward will make me far more likely to visit these places.

I smoke cigars, but I'm banis

I smoke cigars, but I'm banished to smoking them outdoors in my household. Even so, I don't like being around cigarette smoke. It will be interesting to see how much the smoke ban will change the ambiance of Olympia nightlife. Out here in Grays Harbor County, I expect the ban will simply be ignored.

What I love is walking by the Washington State Dept. of Health out in Tumwater and seeing several workers right outside the door taking their cigarette break.

The smoking ban, however physically pleasing, is another way for government to insert itself into your personal life.

"Us" gets to have dominion ov

"Us" gets to have dominion over what 'us' does in us's establishments. In another time, I might agree that it was a good consensus on community values, but in the era of the Patriot act, I cringe every time I hear of the law abridging propreitary liberties. Somewhere up the filial river from which this legislation flows, you will find the lake containing the waters of abortion law, federal surveilance concessions, the new version of eminent domain etc...
