Global WarmingFriday, December 2nd:
Critical Mass bike ride meeting up on Red Square at 5:30
. We will bike over to:

A kick-off event for the Washington Climate Action Network (Washington CAN!)
6:30 pm-8:30pm at Climate Solutions, 219 Legion Way SW

This is a really awesome opportunity to learn about global warming and what we can do about it. Speakers include: Paul Horton, Climate Solutions; Heather Trim, People for Puget Sound; Bonnie Phillips, Olympic Forest Coalition

Saturday, December 3rd:
Another awesome bike ride meeting at 1:00
in the parking lot on Harrison and Division (where Rainy Day Records, Apollo's Pizza and Grocery Outlet are). We will bike over to:

Stop Global Warming Rally!
This will start at around 1:30 at the Heritage Park fountain downtown on 4th Ave.

We're getting speakers, music, drumming etc. There will be an open mike for anyone who wants to say or sing something. Bring instruments, signs, pamphlets and enthusiasm. Come and find out ways you can get involved to stop global warming. This is in solidarity with protests all over the world against global warming during the Climate Conference in Montreal, Canada (November 28th to December 9th).

Representatives from 150 or more nations will be meeting to discuss what can be done about global warming. This is the most decisive meeting since the signing of the Kyoto Protocol, so it is essential that we voice our sentiments on global warming.

A Call for Action on Global Warming
To stay connected to national efforts, we are working in conjunction with Climate Crisis, USA Join the World! As you may know, from November 28th to December 9th representatives from 150 or more nations will be meeting at a Climate Conference in Montreal, Canada. The vast majority of those present will be signers of the Kyoto Protocol on global warming. They will be discussing the latest developments with this deepening world crisis and what should be done about it. Mass demonstrations in Montreal are being organized internationally, set for Dec. 3.

The representatives of the United States government, however, will be present working behind the scenes to try to block any positive action. This is the role they have played for several years.

Citizens must work at all levels of government to find positive solutions to ease climate change. The time for action is now! We support the following goals and will look for a way to work on these and related goals in Washington state.

* U.S.A., Join the World by Ratifying the Kyoto Protocol
* Support and Export Clean, Safe, Non-Nuclear Energy Alternatives
* End Government Subsidies for Oil and Coal Corporations
* Dramatically Strengthen Energy Conservation and Fuel Efficiency Standards
* A Just Transition for Workers, Indigenous and Other Communities Affected by a Change to Clean Energy
* Defend the World's Forests; Support Community-Run Tree Planting Campaigns

Climate activists are on the move! Those who sign the Peoples Ratification petition are participating in the December 3rd Montreal protest.

Dear Friends and Signers of the People's Ratification Petition;

With the news about global warming ever more ominous and the Bush administration’s denial, disregard and disruption of global initiatives ever more egregious, we often find it hard not to despair.

But today we write you on an optimistic note. Climate activists are on the move, around the world, in Montreal, and in the USA. December 3rd is rapidly evolving into the largest and most dramatic day of citizen action against global warming to date.

The Climate Crisis Coalition is coordinating two campaigns for the December 3rd International Day of Action to Stop Global Warming:

Climate Crisis, USA Join the World! campaign. We expect actions in at least 60 localities.

The People’s Ratification of the Kyoto Global Warming Treaty. We will take the petition to Montreal for a media event with sister organizations also sponsoring global warming petitions. Together with Environmental Defense, Greenpeace, Energy Action and others, we will have at least 650,000 signatures.

Here is the latest on what is happening and what you can do to help:

Actions on December 3rd
Momentum is building across the United States http://www.climatecrisiscoalition.org/local-actions-december-3.html

The largest North American protest will be at the U.N. Climate Conference in Montreal: http://www.3dec2005.org/-en-
