I Can't Imagine NOT Owning One!

I wouldn't be able to watch Big Brother, Survivor, America's Next Top Model, American Idol, First 48, Taboo, Wife Swap, Super Nanny, Ellen Degeneres, The View, Regis & Kelly, Good Morning America, My Name Is Earl, ER, The Moment of Truth, all the movies on cable...

Oops!  Gotta Go!  Time to watch America's Next Top Model!

A line from George Harrison stuck in my head...  "Brainwashed by the televison set..." from the song "Brainwashed"

That's an awful lot of umm well awful TV JPO :-)

That my dear

has just become quite patently obvious to even the dimmest observer.  :-p

Hey next time you drive down to TugBoat Annies, PM me first and if I'm around I'll meet ya.

It's Kind Hard To PM Ya

from the motorcycle!  hehehehe!  Mr. Onry comes back to town tomorrow from Atlanta but leaves again for Oregon Friday morning.  Are you working Friday or are you off?

Sadly I lack a life too...

I have Monday and Tuesday off.  And Monday is usually "expend whatever live ammo I have managed to buy, find, reload or scrounge" day.

Personally I think TugBoat Annies would be a great place to have a big Olyblog meetup.  Plenty of room, wifi for "live" coverage and they take reservations.

Oh, did I mention good brew?

I Love Tugboat Annie's!

Set something up!  I'm always up for some fried clams and their San Francisco sammy and a good brew!

So who is up for the evening of the 24th?

Tugboat Annies around 6pm?  I'll be drinking so I won't be packing for the somewhat leary who would be nervous.

But Should We Be More Leary

and nervous if you're not packing?  ;-)

I'm game!  Mr. Onry might join me too!  He likes it there!  And a bonus for me, I can drink because he doesn't so he's always my designated driver!

Well if we can scare up a few more

Olybloggers it could be fun.  Who else is game?  No drunken crashing on the boat though!!!

Maybe Not Your Boat

but others are fair game right?!  And who needs a gate code?  There are plenty of boats sitting out in the parking area!  I've tried to crash on couple a few times after a few too many Captain Morgan & Coke's on girls night out there!

We have a tv.  Owen

We have a tv.  Owen watches a couple of shows on PBS and Trevor really enjoys watching Mythbusters and Survivor man.  But mainly we try to keep it off.   It's such an imagination killer.  I am really against the over use of tv for children.  I can't believe how many young children have their own sets in their room!  It's crazy.  I have been watching the Complete Jane Austen series that has been going on on Masterpiece Theater and Terry and I also really like watching Ghosthunters.  Just typing that all out makes me feel like we watch a lot more tv than I thought we did.   Bleh!

A get together on the 24th sounds fun.  Maybe start a new post about it so others will be sure to see it.

TV + PS2 + Netflix

I use a PS2 for my DVD and watch Netflix on TV-

I'm debating installing an antenna (no COMCAST!).

»

and as chad360 knows....

I have a problem with being "addicted" to the shiny box. I really honestly shouldn't have TV, but at least with just Netflix (and the library!) I can keep it to a reasonable level.
»

Ah Netflix!

an amazing business idea that provides hours of fairly cheap, entertainment with little to no effort!  We love it!

HDTV. It's an amazing thing.

HDTV. It's an amazing thing.

»

it's a kind've sort've thing

We have a t.v. We use it for the occasional movie and french cartoons for our kid. On average it's on for about 60 minutes per week.

About seven years ago I got rid of it in order to dispense with a distraction while studying for the LSAT. I discovered my productivity and general quality of life improved too drastically to ever really bring it back. Sometimes I marvel at how much of my life I willingly passed away in front of that thing.

Reminds me of this

Reminds me of this cartoon.

Thank you Merwyn

That is most excellent.

It's funny, I was gonna do a poll on the same subject...

..except I was more interested in who has cable, dish, rabbit ears etc.

I did not watch TV from 1989 to 1999 and then I moved in with a roomate who had cable. It took all of about an hour to get completely hooked again.

With the baby comin', Marcie and I are planning to cut the cord when it comes to cable. I wil miss watching the city council meetings on TCTV.

I guess I'll have to actually go to the meetings now.

Whenever I want to veg out, I'll just put in "The Power of Myth"...I could watch that over and over again.

We got rid of our TV in 2001...

...and it was the best parenting decision I ever made. Phoebe reads all the time, and she's an amazing reader and a very good writer, as well. Getting rid of your TV is like giving yourself that many more hours of life. We don't miss it at all, although we do miss having the ability to rent movies. It's a worthwhile trade, though. When I do see television now, it's striking and rather frightening to see how narrowly the world is defined in TV land. People, situations, oneself -- the possibilities presented are so shallow and limited, and I believe that watching television trains our perceptions, even away from the television, to evaluate the world in the same limited way.

I think you're right

Given the increasing evidence for visual priming I think it's impossible for t.v. to be other than increasing and decreasing self-perception. Our ability to witness art, other cultures and people on our planet due to t.v. is a little mind blowing. But I don't think those are the culprits as they all encourage recognition of "other". It's all the stuff that gets piled on top of it. The stuff that tells you what's fashionable, how neighbors interact and your morals? The news is a joke. Thinking of OlyBlog on a worldwide scale, we can get reporting directly from most human inhabited areas of the world now. Within minutes. And yet we keep worrying about the centrally produced news. T.V. really does seem to keep us in check.

No TV

I keep up with the news on my computer, which doubles as a DVD player for our Netflix movies.  I really like having one tool for work, education, communication, and entertainment.

I also just downright hate televisions.  Hundreds of channels of crap, and the news is always better in print.  My folks had a TV when I was a kid, but we only got three channels and the antenna was knocked over in the inaugural storm (Clinton's inauguration... great big massive windstorm happened here in Western Wash.), so I didn't have TV reception at all from the age of 13 on.  I don't think I'll ever own another TV set.

HDTV is a beautiful thing

HDTV is a beautiful thing TFI!

Watching the History Channel's "Dogfights" in high-def is awesome :)

»

I Agree!

and nothing beats watching HDTV on a 12 foot theater screen or a 50 inch plasma!
