Symphonic Overtures and Holiday Favorites

The South Puget Sound College Orchestra presents its first concert of the 2016-2017 Season. Selections include Overtures by Verdi and Humperdinck, Max Bruch’s Kol Nidrei with Tacoma cellist Stuart Hake, and seasonal favorites featuring vocalist Troy Fisher.

 Tickets may be purchased online at OlyTix.org, by calling 360-753-8586, at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts box office, or at the door.

 General admission $10

Seniors, students, military $7

SPSCC students, staff, faculty FREE

The South Puget Sound College Orchestra is an auditioned performing group of 68 students and community members ranging in age from 18 to 82. It was founded in 2014 by orchestra director and SPSCC music professor Chip Schooler.  

Olympia High School Bearzaar

You will BEARly believe all the crafts & antiques available at the 17th Annual Olympia High School BEARzaar this year. Hunt for that special gift at over 160 vendors.

The Raffle Hall has an item donated from each vendor, so you can preview a sampling of what the vendors have to offer. It also gives you many chances to win.

Admission and parking are FREE, although this year, for $5 you can enter at 8:15am instead of 9:00.  We will also be accepting canned food donations for the Thurston County Food Bank.

Make sure to give your cubs a big BEARhug before dropping them off at the Oly BEAR childcare down the Raffle Hall.

Stop by for a bite to eat at the café or warm up with a freshly brewed cup of coffee.

So, don't hibernate in your cave on Saturday, November 19th.  BEARzaar is always the Saturday before Thanksgiving! You probably won't leave BEARhanded.

Sean Gaskell Plays Music of the West African Kora

Asheville, NC transplant Sean Gaskell will give a performance and educational demonstration on the kora, an ancient 21-stringed harp from West Africa. The former Olympia resident will feature both traditional songs that are the heart of the kora repertoire and his own compositions. Sponsored by the Friends of the Olympia Library.

Capitol Land Trust- Stewardship Event

Join us Wednesday, November 16, from 10 AM – 1 PM as we work on installing thousands of native plants at Twin Rivers Ranch Preserve with the help of the Washington Conservation Corps (WCC).

Make sure to bring a water bottle! Tools are provided. Work parties are held rain or shine so be sure to dress appropriately in layers. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Replant wetland/riparian buffer following invasive blackberry removal! Volunteers will enjoy a day of restoring wetland buffer and riparian forest in this South Thurston Capitol Land Trust property, supported by staff from WSU Ext./Native Plant Salvage Foundation. This is a great opportunity to learn about native plants best suited to different conditions while restoring the ecological function of this wetland and adjacent forest complex. Capitol Land Trust-Stewardship Event

Join us Saturday, November 5 from 11 AM – 2 PM as we work on clearing invasives from Circle Hawk Farm, where we have a conservation easement, known as the Bentley Conservation Easement. The easement covers 13.85 acres of the 15+ acre farm. With the help of organizations like Capitol Land Trust and Stream Team, this property is recovering to be beautifully restored creek, wetland, and forested riparian habitat.

This production kicks off Harlequin Productions’ 2017 Season. This is the 21st installment of Harlequin’s highly popular tradition of original musicals set in the Stardust Club in Manhattan, celebrating the season with song, dance and laughs.

This Harlequin original series has brightened the holidays for twenty-one seasons and has become a regional tradition for the whole family. Set in 1960 this year, the gang celebrates the election of John F. Kennedy to the White House and the sense that America has entered a new age. However, mysterious events involving myth and magic draw them into circumstances only the spirit of Christmas can untangle. Features popular music of the time, dance and comedy for anyone ready to enjoy the holidays!
