This photo of an art installation created in the 60's and on display in L.A. right now ran on the front page of the NYT Arts section. Notice anything hyper-local?

It's too bad

that a guy who told me he was part of the Oly Beer car project screwed me over in an auction of Oly memorabilia. Asked me to stop bidding so he could win and the items that we were competing were going to help raise $$ for the porject. I was told that he would happily send them to me once his need for them was over...never happened.

I wonder who that was

Vincent, since our Oly car project has been very successful, quite a few guys claim that they are part of it. Here is the list of the guys from WA and OR who were (some of them still are) involved: Dick Pierson, former McGriff crewmember, #1 guy on the project. Sally Sandger, big morale booster. Randy Knighton, first day supporter and sponsor Pat McElreath, McGriff's crew chief from the 70s. Ron Pierson, excellent craftsman and crewmember Kevin Pierson, Winston West crewmember. Don Cann, great writer. Cinde Shafer, very special person and a great lady. Tim Brown, Oly lettering.

Geez, I'll probably forget some of the guys and girls. Better check out the Oly Express Crew on the website.

It was during the building of the car...

I was bidding on a full sleeve of Oly Beer coasters. The fellow that contacted me claimed that he needed them as he was involved in a fundraising dinner for the car where some would be used. We exchanged a few messages back and forth, (now long gone), with me saying that I had been following the project and my interest. After I backed away from further bidding at his request, (and an unsolicited offer of sending some other project related goodies for my collection), which is a breach of eBay rules, he won the item and that was then end of him. Note, this was during the building of the project car, not after the success where many more people would have tried to attach their names to it. I followed the car, was interested in the story but disappointed by my experience by a person claiming to represent it. I looked at the names and unfortunately, none jumped out at me. If I was had by an imposter, then my bad feelings are misdirected. At the time, the car was in the very early stages, it had just been bought for conversion, and the project was not widely known, hence my belief that this guy was on the up and up.
