Friday, May 2: May Day event with music, speakers, and food. 7pm at the Liberation Cafe (116 4th Ave. E., downtown Olympia).  Sponsored by Olympia Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) and Liberation Cafe.

Saturday, May 3: Centralia Union Mural Benefit.  A coalition of local unions and community groups are raising funds for a mural to honor the Wobbly (IWW) martyrs slain and imprisoned by Centralia's business class in the massacre of 1919.  Music by Centralia 19, The Matrix 7, and Jim Smith.  8pm

May Day is still celebrated by socialist, communist, and labor organizations in America. May Day 1998 saw a small demonstration in Olympia against the Washington State "anarchy and sabotage" statute, which in 1919 made it illegal for anyone to display banners, flags, or emblems that are perceived to advocate subversion of the US Constitution, federal or state laws.
