The actions of a small few at the port in Olympia are disturbing. It is far too late in their emotional development to think my thoughts will alter their opinions and subsequently their actions. I cannot, for any reason, condone the obstruction of military traffic, placing innocent children in the path of loaded trucks, breaking bank and police car windows, inujuring police officers or pouring cement on railroad tracks. The actions of these diissenters poses as an insult to those of the southern states during the 60's who had real and personal mistreatment and real cause to quietly change American society and policy. Similar to the destructive and ineffective Watt's rioters several years later - the Olympia protestors have damaged their cause. The real focus of my comments are toward those who have taught and influenced those who choose violence and incivility in an effort to forward their cause. These protests will accomplish no positive outcome. Resisting any and all authority with any and all means and with no concern for those they may harm along the way. Parents, mentors, City counselors and Evergreen CC educators bare responsibility for any harm or destruction coming from these actions. While many may identify with your cause, paultry few will support your means or teachings. Please grow up and 'move-on' from the 60's.

Stereotyping doesn't help

Just because there are a couple of faculty working with the cause doesn't make it an institutional issue. I'm one of those Evergreen educators, and I've said many times I think these tactics are counterproductive. And, if you think that it is possible to make an 18-22 y.o. do or think anything, I'm afraid you're mistaken. In fact, you did say that, so why are you trying to pin it on Evergreen faculty if they have no control over their students actions?

And, if you think that it is

Very Well Written...

Thank you for some good words on this matter... strange nobody else wants to pick up on it.
»

It's not all thatstange since

we've been all been talking AT eachother all week and it's all sounding quite familiar. And I say that with no disrespect for the origninal poster.
»

Probably right...

Maybe the spam filter won't eat this one!
»

Well written indeed!

If you don't care about tense agreement, punctuation or spelling, and don't mind sentence fragments, cliches, and personal pronouns with unclear antecedents! After all, it's so impressive when people use big words like "paltry" and "condone." I've had an epiphany! I've been dissuaded. You'll never catch me questioning George Bush's policy decisions again!

How about...

I just liked what the dude said?
»

Fair enough

the criticism was a tad pedantic.
»

Wow

only slightly dramatic.
»

Wow too

I have to admit I didn't read the entire post...but Watts?
»

Pedantic?

Mais non! Ironic, yes. Exuberant, yes. I'd even cop to snide. But pedantic? No way! This is pedantic: The writer commits many grievous spelling errors such as blah blah blah. He fails to match his tenses correctly. One is confused by vague pronouns such as "they" which have no clearly discernible antecedents, and word usage is unnecessarily pretentious blah blah blah. How can you call something with that many exclamation points pedantic? A pedant on cocaine, maybe. Give me some credit, wouldja?

lol

This shall receive my vote for, "Funniest post of the day.". I'm curious if you drink a lot of coffee or tea throughout the day though.

Shhhh

Don't tell anyone, but I'm trying to make the folks on the right feel like I'm fair and balanced. You popped up on my random liberal comment audit screen. Nothing personal. You were pretty funny!!!

D'oh

Do we need to adjust your filter?

One photographer was forced

One photographer was forced to dial 9-1-1 for assistance when he was backed against a fence by angry protesters.

Just caught this sentence in an opinion piece in The Olympian.

Olympia Port Militarization Resistance might want to figure out how to win the hearts and minds of the tax-paying public.

But there isn't a monopoly on protest

The best thing I can say is: remember, the protests are not run by a monolith organization that has everyone marching in lockstep, actions taken at the port may or may not have anything to do with the group PMR. Everyone present will not necessarily agree with what anyone else is doing.

»

What is PMR doing...

To distance itself from the criminal activity? To stop the criminal activity? To help the police prevent the criminal activity? To condemn the criminal activity? Nothing! PMR is culpable in this situation, and should be held to account by the law and the citizens who value Olympia as a decent place to live. We should not allow our city to be seen by the rest of the nation as a town of out of control radicals. We do not need and should not want that reputation. C.

One of the great non sequiturs of the left is that, if the free market doesn't work perfectly, then it doesn't work at all-- and the government should step in.

The story doesn't say which protesters

the only one's I saw threatening anyone by the fence were the counter protesting thugs. I was one of several people they threatened that night. The account is not very clear. I'd like some details. If they were anti-war protesters, then they were out of line.

"Please grow up and 'move-on' from the 60's."

Coach:

Let's have a word here.

I was born in 1951, thus lived through the "60s" and the "70s" (a fair amount of social protest in the early 1970s, also).

I AM grown up.  I grew quite a bit when National Guardsmen fired live rounds and killed four students at Kent State.
