i just have to say

Merwyn,

The actual definition of anarchy is "rule by no one". I'm sure Meta or Guglielmo could break down the word and tell us the meanings of its part, but it is very far from the definition you gave. I don't where you got that, but it is an irresponsibly inaccurate definition.

I'm sure you've seen the image called the 'Circle A'. Many people don't know that it's not a circle at all, but the letter 'O'. What's the O stand for you wonder? It stands for "Order". Anarchists are about community, cooperation, consensus, democracy, etc. Saying that they are only out for themselves is also inaccurate.

I will give you that there is a group of people in town, mostly younger college students, who like to play anarchist on the weekends, but they don't at all define or make up the entire movement. It just felt like you were casting a wide net.

Oh, and hippies and anarchists are very different kinds of people and really don't often commingle much.

Not trying to be a butthead,

Not trying to be a butthead, but are you saying that hippies aren't for community, cooperation, consensus or democracy?

If you think I'm a mean guy now, you should've known me before I became a Pacifist.

Now I'm off to my KAOS shift: there's still two days to become a member and keep community radio alive. The Think Tank brought in $520 for the two weeks combined, I wonder how well Radio 8-Ball will do.

»

no

not at all, the groups are just into different things is all. I don't think you're mean, just a little nutty. Good work at KAOS by the way, it's an important resource for our community.

Rob still..

Attends weekly Anarchy meetings religiously.

Is that an oxymoron?

Tammy and I have been

Tammy and I have been finding this out the hard way. If you're allergic to Soy, or (as in her case) are warned that it could actually cause estrogen-based cancer to return, that practically every pre-packaged product has it in some shape or form.

Now, I realize this is a wakeup call that natural foods from scratch are the best, and as a person who loves to cook in their own home I agree. But on those nights where we're tired and it'd be nice to just throw something from the freezer in the oven it leaves us little or no choices.

be careful with soy

If your a man you could grow boobs. Lot's of estrogen in soy. There was a great article in Mother Jones not too long ago about soy. It broke down all of the different soy products: milk, tofu, etc, and laid out the risks and cautions associated with each. You should try to find that article.

and when the gray returns...

...remember to contrast it with our colors.

If you have a cold.....

.........send someone out to acquire a growler of ginger brew from Fish (or go to the pub yourself and drink it, this only applies if you are fit for company).

Also drink Nyquil at regular appropriate intervals. Plus drinks tons of water.

Remember, this too shall pass.

The Mariners could have beat the pants off

either the Diamondbacks or the Rockies. Felix Hernandez would have 30 postseason strikeouts by now. God I'm bitter.
»

They could have

but they played a stinky season :(
»

They played a stinky two weeks!

They just stank a lot for those two weeks. Bitterness!

Cleveland Rocks!

I agree with the Arizona statement, not so sure about the Rockies, though.  They remind me of the 1997 Marlins and once again, it looks like Cleveland may be on another losing side of an underdog team whose payroll is in the bottom third of the league.  The Marlins beat the Indians in the 1997 World Series.

I'd like to see the Indians win it all!

»

Can't bring myself

to root for the Indians. My first taste of baseball was the '95 postseason when I was 10 years old... They made Joey Cora cry! At this point, I have to root for the Rockies, just because I have no reason to despise them.

What Gug said. Some high

What Gug said. Some high winds and lots of leaves being blown down. Supposedly supposed to start at 6am tomorrow. I'm not sure how much we'll see, but I'm driving to Aberdeen tomorrow morning, so I may catch a little bit of the coastal stuff.

The post-human planet Earth

This is worth listening to, I heard it yesterday on KUOW and you can hear it via this link. I was especially interested in the author's statement (put in my own words) that ultimately what keeps we humans going isn't the policy makers and the politicians - it is the folks that pump out the subways and paint the bridges to keep them from rusting......daily steady labor keeps us going.
The old saying goes "it's not the end of the world," but what if it was? If a natural or man-made disaster wiped out the human race, would the Earth be better off without us? Or would it miss us? In his bestselling book "The World Without Us," journalist Alan Weisman paints a picture of a world without people. Weisman asked scientists, engineers and religious leaders what would happen to a post-human planet Earth, and he explained his findings in an Oct. 8 speech in Minneapolis.
