He will always be "my president"

LOS ANGELES - Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84.

As a kid, The Ten Commandments was a regular we watched at Easter. Great actor, great activist. He will be missed.

My wife and I had a great

My wife and I had a great time reciting "Planet of the Apes" quotes last night. They tend to be a little funnier after a couple bottles of Cab. :)

OH.........and by the way. If you look closely at the video of Dr. King's speech at the Lincoln Memorial, you'll see Charlton Heston in the background.

I don't think anyone is tough enough to do it...

even in death. Sad attempt at humor guys.

two things, Norm my friend.

#1- The only way that statement is physically true is if rigor mortis had set in, making much harder to pry the gun loose. I'm sure my saws-all would do the trick.

#2- That's relative. I'm not sad, and I thought it was full on humorous, not just an attempt.

You deserve to be

You deserve to be disemvolled here.  DIY style.

Really Rob

How mature are you being at this point? The man fought for second amendment rights, and was used and abused by both political sides of the spectrum. Now in death you are poking fun at him. My first comment was metaphoric, my second was the truth. You're not funny. I would say the same thing to anyone making bulldozer jokes.

I don't know how to disemvowel, but I will tell you that I didn't find your comment(s) appropriate. Some of us liked the guy.

I never met him, so I couldn't possibly like or dislike him.

I'm sorry his death sucked for you.

Well Rob,

Heston's comment was right on. Me thinks you wouldn't have taken his gun from his hand when he said what he said, sawsall or not. Ol' Chuck Heston likely would have given you a sawsall suppository. ;-)

And if the US Supreme Ct rules like I think they will, your sawsall will be mighty rusty from lack of use.

Oh yes, remember your humor today when I have a little laugh when one of your icons bites the big one.

That's what I thought too

I'd rather it didn't go there though. This reminded me of the Jerry Fallwell thread from so long ago, except that I was never fond of Jerry or his ideals.

Good luck.

I have this thing where I don't get into hero worship (I guess it's like the xtians and their false idols). People live, serve a purpose (whether I agree with them or not), and then they die, and that serves a purpose. People die everyday, some don't squint as well as others and so they don't get on the front page of the papers, doesn't mean they should be honored any less. Heston did what he did and entertained some people and empowered others to stand up for what they believe in and that's a good thing. His death means nothing. The memories you have of the things that endeared you to him are what's important. My two cents.
