Panel on the Eviction and Foreclosure Crisis

There will be a panel discussion hosted by GOFER (Greater Olympia Foreclosure Eviction Resistance) on January 7th at 7pm in the Knox building at Avanti High School (1113 Legion Way SE), with childcare provided free of charge. This event will provide information on the foreclosure crisis and how it is affecting us locally, and will also present ideas for how we can respond. Speakers will include Evergreen economics professor Savvina Chowdhury, a member of the Olympia School Board, and Homes Not Jails. Homes Not Jails is a San Francisco-based organization that works to house the homeless in buildings that would otherwise be vacant. This event will kick-off a local campaign to address the problem of foreclosures and evictions in our community. It will be followed by a series of monthly public meetings at the Olympia library where people can learn more about these issues, access resources, build networks of support, and develop solutions.
