I love it - now lets hear from other colors and genders

I love the contrasts, the arguments about values and goals (rather than ad hominem or personal attacks) but I have to say - these are white males and more white males. No women, no men of color, no diversity of class perspective. Not that you have to have those, just that those perspectives exists as well and were not seen or heard here.

Make a video

Sounds like it would be worth watching.

perspectives

Great video... I would just rebut a few of the statements that Jeff and the Uniformed Service Member made - in the video - next time. Maybe it would be good to reproduce the video with point by point rebuttals.

For example, 1 million Iraqis have been killed as a result of an invasion and occupation that was based on (knowingly and deliberately, in my opinion) false premises.

Schools and hospitals? Please cite statistics, like how many there are functioning now v. pre-invasion.

Finally, we have a duty as citizens to oppose the illegal actions of our government.

PMR needs some high quality informational/educational video.

I might add

I might add that whoever the anti-war individual was has something to remember. I think the police failed to have conversations with the anti-war group is that it appears as though they liked to call OPD (and other law enforcement) F*)^(*& ing Pigs and responded with F(*& You! I can work on that info Robert.

Derogatory Language is Regrettable, but...

I am in total agreement. I wish the anti-war crowd would refrain from using personal insults against the cops. It just doesn't help. The extent of name calling has been minimal and is limited to a few individuals. I am working on it.

The big story here is how the police have been attacking and assaulting peaceful protesters. The use of violence against protesters expressing civil disobedience is unacceptable.

It is not okay to mace or pepper spray someone if they are not posing an immediate threat. Pepper spray is only for use when there is an issue of safety.

At no time have the police been physically threatened by any peace activists.

I mentioned in the Open Thread

The stark differences between Aaron Mason's comment -

Pretty much every single one of those protestors behaved in a confrontational, disrespectful, and aggressive manner.

And the quote from the Mayor's office -

While most demonstrators have been respectful of the rights of others and have expressed their views lawfully

This contrast brings me to several questions.  Is the Mayor's office just patronizing the masses?  Was the Mayor's office correct in their assessment?  Is Mason wrong, mistaken, biased or absolutely correct?

Here is the tricky part - media is a powerful tool.  We watched in 2004 how a medal winning veteran could be turned into a treasonous traitor if the right words were said over and over enough times.  I respected the soldier in the video as he seemed very thoughtful, all the time remembering the Non-Com quoted in Sarah's thread that said soldiers are not allowed to comment negatively about the military.  Thus, that fine soldier in the video was sort of locked in on that interview.  I've witnessed Jeff's idea of the First Amendment and have noticed that if he isn't able to get a rise out of someone, he loses interest fast.  The other gentleman was pleasant and heartfelt, but seemed to lack depth in his dialog.  Meanwhile many people will walk away with an opinion of our community based on what they see, read and hear in a 3rd party sense, concerning these protests.

We have but one choice - research.  We all owe it to ourselves to seek as many sources of information as possible to formulate the opinion and story that we take into our lives about our community.

Now is not the time to seek the quick and dirty answers, folks.

Thanks Larry

Always nice to see your comments. (Are you sure you are Larry today or are you Emma, Marilyn, or someone else now? Kidding) Not back in Olympia for a few more months. However, I talked with my nephew and he stated that Mayor Foutch was 'playing to the cameras' and trying to tone down the actions. These activities are not good for business in general. Olympia and all it's glory (sarcasm) made the news here in Boulder, CO. Great! My neighbors here think 'my town' if full of jerks. I glanced at the Olympian the last few days. Nice to know that the Olympian has dropped its stance on profanity and threats.

LOL...dropped it's stance......LOL

DJW:

By the way, I'm told I'm somebody else today, but I'm so confused I don't even know who I am. If you read far enough, you'll see that some guy named "Jerry" committed the ultimate sin and called someone an "ass" in The Olympian in the past day or so.  I think Jerry also thinks that someone named "Pat Endorses Rudy" is me or Emma or me and Emma.  God...who knows????

Boulder, CO thinks poorly of us?  Well, now, THERE is a big surprise!  Why don't you tell me something I won't know.  LOL

How far is Dobsontown from Boulder?  Travel carefully and stay in touch.

Was that a wide stance?

Larry

Thanks for the laugh. Not sure how 'wide' the Olympian can go on any stance. Not sure I want to know. Enjoy!
