Photographic Odyssey

September 21st Council Meeting Extended Public Hearing at the Washington Center for Performing Arts

After the public hearing at the Washington Center Yesterday I went on a photographic odyssey. It was a gorgeous day, much like today, except there were more clouds and there was less of a gusty breeze. First I went to the port plaza. There were a few other people there also enjoying the beautiful Sunday afternoon.

After that I went to Watershed Park. It was a great day for a walk around the loop trail. The Old Growth Forest smelled great. I saw 7 other people while walking the loop.

Nice Shots

Great Panoramas. Have you ever played around with the program Autostitch? It's great for some of those harder to piece together panoramas (http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~mbrown/autostitch/autostitch.html). Automatically matches, bends, blends and adjust all your photos for you. It's pretty amazing to watch it do its thing. Being that it's technology that is licensed to other developers, the demo version will only output panoramas at 10% the native size, but if you're shooting with a larger megapixel camera, it's a great size for sharing with friends or the web. Plus 100% panoramas can run in the 100s of megabytes. Just thought you might enjoy.

Thanks for the Tip

Thanks for the compliment and the information about autostitch. I haven't used it before, but I might just give it a try.

I have tried something called "pt gui" which I learned about from an awesome local photographer, and panoramic stitching expert, Randy Kosek.

Personally, I am less interested in perfect reproduction of views than in capturing the general essence and spirit of the scene. Though I do try to blend the images as well as I can with the equipment that I have. Perhaps, at some point in the future I can invest in some better technology!

edges

you should trim your photos...the uneven edges can make a good photo unflattering.

trimming the photos

I do trim some of them. The reason that I don't trim some of them is generally because there are details that would be cut out, or that so much would be cut out (especially in the case of some of the larger ones) that the remaining area of alignment would be too small.

I am glad that you might think some of them are good photos though!
