Photos Sought: Past May Day on Westside

I'm looking for photos taken at a past May Day here in Olympia, the one on Harrison and Division. Specifically looking for photos of the police lined up in riot gear.

Found a slideshow of photos from May Day 2002, but not yet exactly what I am looking for. I also need to sort out the exact year the westside event happened.

Update: The year is 2001, found this handy summary in the emergency management archives-

On May 1 approximately 300 protesters assembled near the south entrance of Black Lake and Harrison Avenue in Olympia Washington as part of the May Day Protest Activity. The protesters began moving toward downtown Olympia and the 5th Street Bridge around 4:35 PM but returned to a vacant lot on Black Lake Boulevard without major incident.

The Division and Harrison eve

The Division and Harrison event, where a garden was bulldozed, took place in 2001. This link http://cals.evergreen.edu:81/ will take you to an index of Olympian articles. I typed in "May Day Division" using the Keyword option and found my answer. --#31

I didn't attend the last one. Was there no bashing of TV set, naked wrestling, flowers in hair, climbing of tripods in mid intersection, confused people, happy people? No arguing over what route to take? No general mirth and merriment? No couches mysteriously appearing in the street?

Nope, just people milling around throwing paper airlines and holding signs.___May 1st is on a Sunday this year so that will probably keep a lot of it toned down this spring, too. The first two were definately the most entertaining.

#31, as your code name adds up to 4, it is clear you are an adept when it comes to items with four corners. Books, computers, newspapers. How are you with boxes of cereal? And may I net some caimans with opposable thumbs so they can do my keyboarding for me?

Thanks for that wonderful lead, I have my list ready now for when it is microfilm time. Also dove into Proquest, found some good Seattle articles. No specific photos yet, though I may have to give up eventually on that quest.

Photo wise I have found a 2000 "attempt to burn flag", 2000 "naked mayhem", and a 2002 KOMO Air 4 overhead view.

Yes, my talent with four corn

Yes, my talent with four corners is due to my being such a square, which is what I am according to those who know me. I believe you mean "boxes of serials" rather than "boxes of cereal." You could hunt down microfilm copies of the Olympian at the State Library or Timberland. I would also suggest visiting the offices of the CPJ. The Olympian does have the article archived online and you can retrieve it-- for a price. I did find an image at: http://news.theolympian.com/stories/20020327/HomePageStories/134171.shtml -- I'm staying away from those caimans. Ever hear one of them laugh? Creepy. Whatever you do, no matter how polite they might seem, never turn your back on them. I originally thought letting them go in Capitol Lake would be good for tourism, but now I realize I made a big mistake in messing with Nature's domain. May God have mercy on my soul. -- with a heart full of sorrow, #31

Time travel will correct the Caiman Mistake, until then I'll tag this as an urban legend, that way no one will know the truth.

Unless it is tomorrow.

Photo! Perfect, thanks immensely. I did not have a camera on me that day, May 1st 2001. Was quite the shock rambling out of the alley to the vacant lot on Division and Harrison, to find a phalanx of riot gear clad police.

I thought of this recently, wandering out of the same alley on my way to the bus stop, momentarily wondered if all that had been a dream. (We 9s space out a lot.) #54

Wow, I didn't realize May Day

Wow, I didn't realize May Day put such a hit on the City budget.

Maybe it's been so tame lately because someone told them the price tag.

I was just throwing mine out there as a very, very sarcastic guess.
