Egypt, Wisconsin, Washington! Enough is enough! No more business as usual! Government institutions—public institutions—need to serve the public interest, not private and special interests! Common interests, like jobs for all and a healthy environment with stable ecosystems, go first. Special interests, like private profit, last! Toward a popular uprising of resistance to unjust and immoral policies! Nonviolent democratic revolution!

Saturday 26 March 2011, Olympia Washington Worker Solidarity Rally and Rally for the American Dream
This rally was to demonstrate solidarity with union workers in Wisconsin, many of whom are currently defending against an aggressive assault by special interests to destroy the right to collective contract bargaining. Many people believe there is an effort by private companies to bankrupt the public sector, in order to take-over public insititutions.
Another rally at WA State Gov't HQ in Olympia is planned for next week: Thursday 17 March, Noon, on the steps of the Legislative Building. For more information about that from fuse, here.

Your concern about our
Your concern about our current state of affairs is well founded. However, mentioning Egypt in the same breath as Wisc. and our state cheapens history and diminishes the suffering of the Egyptian people under a dictator. Asking people to pay a larger share of their health care benefits and maybe chip in a little more for retirement is far and away different than taking to the streets in a middle eastern dictatorship. Lack of perspective cheapens otherwise good arguments and turns people off.
I hear that you feel America has some Privileges?
I hear that you feel we're doing pretty well over here in America, and that comparing our struggle to someone's whose is much more"needed" or important; cheapens history, whose history I don't know maybe our history, maybe their history, maybe your history by someone comparing our struggle to their much more legitimized struggle.
I don't think that this statement was made to exaggerate either struggle but to be stated as something to observe, and consider the similarities. Quite honestly think it points out the uncomfortable similarities of our government to their government. Some inherent similarities in governments that find convenience in not meeting the needs of the people, but are somehow always able to meet their needs. Sometimes, governments forget people, sometimes institutions forget they're made of people...

Living Under a Dictatorship
I am not so sure that we are not living under a certain kind of dictatorship here in America.
Actually, I think there is a rational argument to be made that we are, indeed, living under a dictatorship. Wall Street rings a bell.
Just my opinion. Comparing
Just my opinion. Comparing the collective bargaining debate to what went on in Egypt cheapens the suffering of the masses in the middle east. I will go out on a huge limb here...yes, I think we have it better than the folks in that part of the world. If one wants to make a point about collective bargaining, union control of public employees, etc.. then an argument should probably be made on the merits of that debate. The comparison just does not align in my head, and probably many others.
Egypt and the USA
Not to mention, the corruption that prevailed in Egypt was the product of the policies and actions of the USA!
We have a responsibility to our fellow humanity. The USA really is the belly of the beast.
Yawn...
Go USA!
I hear ya,
Yawn...
