Don't Let the Port of Tacoma Destroy Thurston County

The Port of Tacoma has bought 745 acres of land just south of Olympia to turn into a huge “logistics center” (South Sound Logistics Center). Preliminary information shows that this would involve a complete transformation of this whole area, with thousands more trucks clogging our freeways and small country roads each day, hundreds of trains blocking access roads, a possible solid waste transfer facility, a possible chemical manufacturing center, and so on. The project represents an assault on what remains of rural Thurston County, and a major threat to the regional treasure that is Millersylvania State Park with its 500,000 annual visitors.

A citizen has filed for a rezone of the involved area to make it more difficult to use this land so inappropriately. Please join our efforts to protect Thurston County’s resources and rural character by adding your name to the list of supporters of the proposed rezone (see attached). The list will be presented to the county as an addendum to the rezone filing.

I have been thinking abou this one...

The intial title "Port trying to destroy natural beauty" makes me think of a bunch of people deliberately setting out to wipe out what is left of a rural area, simply because it is natural and beautiful.  Snively Whiplash anyone? :-)

I don't think that is a good spot for anything except a park.  Personally I would love to see the Port of Olympia disbanded (that marine terminal is a joke) the airport given over to it's own authority, Swantown Marina leased out on a rotating basis to the current marina operators in Olympia with which it currently unjustly competes, and the marine terminal turned into a park.

The whole Port of Olympia (PoO :-)  Is nothing more than an overpriced sick joke.
