Dictators suck.

Submitted by Rob Richards on Fri, 11/02/2007 - 11:14am.I get what you're saying but I think there is a way around it. First and foremost I would decentralize power by putting more into the hands of neighborhood councils. Services (water, sewer, garbage, transportation, etc) would need to be centralized, but I'd split the city budgets between the N.A.'s and let them build their neighborhood however the people living in them want. Each N.A. would have a chair, all of the chairs would meet monthly with the Mayor. The Mayor would be accountable to them, not the other way around. The idea being to keep the power as close to the bottom as possible.

Bush had a great support right after WTC 9/11 and is less than 30% supported 6 years later. His performance drove his popularity down.
I stress that the key to popular democracy is legal and fair elections
