Last night I am playing Rock Band. I am trying to 5-star all Easy songs. I have the main game songs completed and all of the downloaded songs that I have except the Metallica songs which are all 4 starred. So I start with Ride the Lightening and make it though the song warming up. There is quite a bit of kick drum in the song and I need a couple run troughs to get prepared.

On my third run I am doing great, keeping my multiplier at 4x and not messing up the fills. Then I feel this weird lump under my foot. It was like my sock had balled up or something. I finish the song and almost have the 5 star but not quite. I look down and my kick drum pedal has split in half.

The break was just behind the spring so it still works but most likely not for long. I am thinking of buying a real kick pedal and trying my hand at improvising some thing more sturdy and like the real thing.

Here are a couple examples I found:

Any drummers have an old kick pedal laying around that I could purchase cheaply?

So which is better? Rock

So which is better? Rock Star or Guitar Hero?

It depends

Guitar Hero is a fairly solitary game while Rock Band is designed with a group of friends in mind. If all you are really interested in is playing "air guitar" to some fun songs Guitar Hero is far cheaper. Rock Band on the other hand lets you play "air guitar", drums and sing. You can have friends over, each of you play a different instrument including bass and go on tour. It is a real blast. I am enjoying the drummer part of the game so much I am considering buying my own set.

I played Guitar Hero's I and

I played Guitar Hero's I and II religiously while I was in college. I was just curious because - as you mention - there are far more options available on Rock Band (plus I haven't played it).

I do know that Guitar Hero is quite possibly the best drunk video game ever.

With Guitar Hero you can still have two guitars duking it out on the same console, which is fun.

I don't know whether I'd be able to get into the singing portion of Rock Band. Actually, I know I wouldn't be able.

Weird I typed up a huge

Weird I typed up a huge response to your question and the site has appeared to eat it.... In the end my verdict is buy Guitar Hero if you want an inexpensive air guitar experience that you play by your self. Buy Rock Band if you enjoy having your friends over acting like a real rock band and having fun. It is pricey but Rock Band is the far superior game.
