A new website exists (Beta) which allows persons to rate individual police officers. The site is: www.ratemycop.com Olympia is listed. Police in general are not happy. See this story: http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/local&id=6006207 Of course, the 1st Admendment should trump any challenge to the posting of publicly available information concerning those that protect and serve. If they are good officers then they should have nothing to hide.

and S6's Link

It doesn't seem overly offensive to me, provided no personal information is posted. Address, phone # etc.

This is a farce!  All you need to be a qualified rater is a username and password.  Registration is free and requires nothing substantial to gain access.  It's a sad attempt at discrediting police.

Any site like this worth-a-crap wouldn't need an indemnification clause.

My 2 cents.

I agree

That's why I found it amusing at best.  Too easy for one person with a grudge to get on there and do what he/she/it felt like.  No real world application.

Officer Duncan got a negative

Here's the quote:

this guy treated me like a gang member and was very disrespectfull and the fact that he treated me like a gang member becuase of my skin color makes me think hes racist.. he was just another power trip cop

Right

No context, no facts, just an opinion.  I can get that here.

Agreed

At best it seems like a local venting area.

Officer Branson, Hutchings, and McKillip got green lights

In their respective order:

Always happy to teach you stuff.

He is always ready to help. Very polite. (smiley face didn't compute)

He is always ready to help, and educate you of the law. (again, smiley face didn't compute)

Beta...

it is only.

Yeah, Beta

Do you understand what Beta means in the software/web services world?  It means the product is code complete and about to be released unless these guys have a different take on Beta.

Nice try, though!  =)

Open vs closed?

I helped with beta testing win98.....holy cow batman, it was bad.

The whole thing is open to

The whole thing is open to abuse, which is why I compared it to RateMyProfessors.com. It's nothing more than entertainment.

One side of the potential abuse has already been pointed out, but it's also open to officers saying they're the greatest person since Jesus.

If anything, it's just funny to go and read the comments for a good laugh.
