Browsing around on the Lexicon of Sustainability website, I came across their page on Backyard Pollinators and Ballard Bees.
This Seattle company has a couple of programs that put hives in people's yards - and look after them... As their website says:

Sponsoring/Hosting Bee Hives
Ballard Bee Company (BBC) will place 2-4 hives on your property during the months of March through September. BBC will tend and maintain the hives with weekly visits.
Hosts receive a monthly 22 ounce jar of BBC honey for duration of their hosting. This service has a monthly charge with a 3 month minimum commitment.
Renting a Bee Hive
Ballard Bee Company (BBC) will place a hive (or up to a maximum of 4 hives) on your property during the months of February through September. Rent for the year is (call for pricing). BBC will tend and maintain the hives with weekly visits. At the end of September, the renter will receive all of the honey produced by the hive(s).
(The Lexicon of Sustainability writeup says that the Seattle family in their photograph got two hives in their yard from March to September, and a share of the honey, for $85.)
