Where I Am At Here
Submitted by Bert on Tue, 10/07/2008 - 9:23pm.Why isn't this candidate allowed to participate in the election?
Who is telling us that Nader/Gonzales is not a valid choice?
These are the values that I want in the White House.
only ethics for me
Submitted by chad360 on Wed, 10/08/2008 - 10:06am.Thanks Bert-
-in part, I think the answer is about the polarization of the American politics around a two-party system and money in politics.
I want my leaders to focus on the ethics of economic globalization and basic human rights, and pretty much stay out of the rest of American life, so I'm not looking for a values or moral leader....and in my lifetime I have seen none:
Clinton signed rendition into law & disgraced the office with scandal-
Reagan was into DARE-
Cheney's last 8 years leading the Christian fool Bush around has been just awful...human rights and the process of law went right out the window with these goons-
-so, I certainly don't want some moralist telling me what is of value (I respect alot of folks I'd never want as President).
Counter question, "Why hasn't the position of President attracted an economist?"

Why isn't this candidate
Submitted by Laurian on Sun, 10/12/2008 - 11:45am.Why isn't this candidate allowed to participate in the election?
Nader is participating. He is on enough state ballots to theoretically win the electoral college. Why is he not part of the debates? Perhaps polling less than 2% might have something to do with it. Same reason my beloved Socialist Party isn't on the stage.
Who is telling us that Nader/Gonzales is not a valid choice?
Nobody. It's not whether their campaign is valid or not, it is that their campaign is simply irrelevant. The simple fact is Nader does not have enough votes to win the electoral college.
Bert I invite you to come down off the hill and work on an actual campaign where you will learn what democracy really is. It means hard work, compromise and the ability to speak to people who disagree with you. It's about dialouge, not the heart felt monologue you engage in around here.
On Nader...
Submitted by chad360 on Sun, 10/12/2008 - 2:28pm....well, I'm OK with whatever Bert wants to believe in, but I also agree with some compromise-
-I'm not a political junkie, but my wife said that if folks in FL had not voted Nader, then Gore would have been on top, no prob (but that is hindsight, and only worth noting in context of then, not now).
My question, has Nader even been elected to any public government position?
Has Nader been a governor, in the Congress, or anything more than a consumer rights advocate?
I feel that experience does matter when dealing with the "body politic" here is the US-
-this is just my opinion, and not meant as a slam on Ralph...he seems like a OK guy.
Yeah, I've often wondered why he
Submitted by Guglielmo on Sun, 10/12/2008 - 2:34pm.Gug, that IS a really good question.
